Re: Lithium Battery Monitor 48 cell

Just a note to say I'm moving all the KiCad files etc to a new server and attempting to do a slightly better website. Should anyone require any files or schematics in the meantime feel free to PM me.

Re: Lithium Battery Monitor 48 cell

Hi, As you are using the same circuit and have included the programming header, all you need is the USB programming cable from Revolution Education and a little homemade adapter to go from the 3.5mm stereo jack to the SIL programming header. The firmware is the same as the one on my webpage. I used ...

Re: Lithium Battery Monitor 48 cell

Hi Casemod,

I don't have any Picaxe 08m2 to hand at the moment.
Are you using the exact same pins to do the exact same jobs as mine?
Did you include the programming header on your boards?
Will you be using the SMT or throughole Picaxe?

D

Re: Lithium Battery Monitor 48 cell

I had been toying with doing a BMW Z3 conversion. I identified the power steering as a potential nuisance, so I ordered an electric hydraulic pump from a Vauxhall Astra on Ebay just for a little tinker. I have not received it yet as the seller is shockingly inept. It might be a possible avenue for y...

Re: Lithium Battery Monitor 48 cell

"I am just wondering why 2 relays for the charger" One of the relays controls the charger on/off on my Zivan charger. The other relay is used to switch on the alarm buzzer, which beeps on low cell voltage and beeps at "switch on" to tell you whether you're in charge mode or drive...

Re: Lithium Battery Monitor 48 cell

Hi, There are no spare pins to do a temperature input as I recall but I'd need to check though. I do like the idea of the temp check. I only charge after a hard drive when the weather is really cold as that ensures the cells are not too cold. There is a risk however that the charge can complete and ...

Re: Lithium Battery Monitor 48 cell

When you add the new components to the schematic you have to generate a new netlist. Then you open the netlist up in CvPcb and associate the desired footprints with the new components and save it. Then you open Pcbnew and hit the read netlist button. The new components should be there for you to rou...

Re: Lithium Battery Monitor 48 cell

Hi casemod, Glad to see someone playing with my board :D I just noticed I didn't put the schematic in the KiCad files on my webpage so I'll get that fixed  The current drain on the first three cells is of the order of 0.6mA so I'm not overly worried. I will be manually balancing periodically (...

Re: Lithium Battery Monitor 48 cell

Hi Mike, Sorry to be so slow to reply. The main BMS chips cost about £6 each from digikey as Farnell have removed their stock from sale. You need 8 of these. A board is circa £60 from Europe I think, bummer that I arsed up the first batch  You'd be much better to order a few from ITEAD in Chin...

Re: Lithium Battery Monitor 48 cell

Update: BMS has been performing flawlessly so far. I kept the low voltage threshold at 2.8v but adjusted the low voltage setting on my motor controller to the equivalent of 2.8v per cell. This has eliminated all BMS chirps when driving. Car is running well and I'm not worrying about the cells. BMS i...
