Re: new battery mfg

Enerdel is a subsidiary of Ener1 and has been around for a while. They have got the contract for supplying the new Think City with a lithium pack as Think seem to be moving away from the Zebra technology.
These battery packs are available now and give the car a slighly lower range but are cheaper.

Re: Test SAFT batterys under load as a well as by voltage

Were the modules fully charged before load testing? Collapse of voltage when almost discharged is normal. Try reconditioning by cycling at 5 amps down to a threshold of 2 volt. Pulse charging at very high efffect of 150A kan also help to skift to capacity under 5 volt up to a more useable voltage.

Re: berlingo E500 nicads

I live in Norway and have never heard of SAFT nicads suffering damage from freezing top up water. Very little water is left sitting on the ramps and water in the hoses can expand freely in the rubbber hoses. The tops pop off when a cell/cells in the same hydraulic circuit start to reverse polarity w...

Re: Electriques (s) being broken for spares

I wouldn`t assume that all the battery modules are duff. These er extremely robust and can have a long life in an uncharged state. I would make an offer for all those that are not physically damaged.

I can only confirm that I haven`t heard of SAFT modules freezing in practice here in Scandinavia. In theory it is possible. Temperatures of minus 40 have been reported this year. Modules kan lose up to a litre of water before the water fill lamp comes on so the eletrolyte is much more concentrated t...

Various people have tried to refill these SAFT NiCads with electrolyte with variable success. One I have spoken to has weighed new modules to find that they are underweight. He connected the battery and hydraulic filling hoses and filled the modules with concentrated Potassium Hydroxide. He then ove...

An ion exchange resin deioniser is used for Think nicads and the resistivity of the water shold exceed 1 Mohm. Keep this water with a tight lid since CO2 dissolving will make it acid and carbonise the potassium hydroxide electrolyte. I use a Micromeg from Elga water industries. Best for clubs as it ...

Phew, what a bunch of meanies not letting you charge a scooter. I live in Norway and an agreement with an electicity producer (hydro electric) has garanteed that all members of the national EV club charge with renewable energy and limits this to 18000kw. This helps to dispel the myth that EVs use th...

For those that might be interested in coming to the conferance or exhibition, we have booked a bunch of huts in a campsite not too far from where the action is. A youth hostel is also nearby for a slightly more refined experience. A shared hut works out at 15 pounds a night per person, a tent for up...
