EV charge points

Would it be feasible for people to set up their own renewable micro-power station to sell credits to the grid, and to sell electricity to passing motorists like a petrol station? If EVs do finally take off I suspect lots of people will make the necessary investment and then every other house in the ...

Smiths ElectricVehicles

I love that the Brits are ahead in the goods-vehicle EV industry, what with Smiths and Modec, and I hope they trounce the competition (if any) in the US. However I've been wondering about their white man van EV that uses a Ford Transit body. Do we think Ford may have done a deal with Smiths to provi...

Back on topic

Clearly there are good arguments in favour of and against mandated EVs. But to address the concern about motor car companies fighting production of EVs following any potential mandate.. its worth considering that the Californian mandate did indeed create a fight, with the petrol car industry fightin...

Large multi-passenger EVs

Maybe we can buy electric vans from Smith Electrics and kit them out with seats and seatbelts, or just make a sixties-style love-mobile with a settee and coffee table in the back for passengers lol! Seriously though if they can make a large transit van-sized EV or lorry-sized EV that can carry x man...

British EV companies

I think we have some potential companies in Britain who could become big players in the grand scheme of things. We have a lot of expertise milk-float-wise and they have evolved by taking advantage of new technologies to make motorway capable TRUCKS (eg Smith Electric Vehicles), Tesla will have homeg...

Sales guys wont listen

Sales guys act dumb when you ask them about their own companies discontinued EVs. They try to argue that they never existed, or were a failed experiment, etc, and will say anything to get you to accept that you can only choose a petrol/diesel car, or a hybrid car that does not have a plug to recharg...

Sums it up really

I think thats the way to make it happen for a lot of people - log the daily mileage and then see how many days in a year travel over 100 miles in a day (not including stops of 6-8 hours when a pre-arranged recharge location makes a longer journey viable on electric). Large families and long-range dr...

Mandate is unfortunately necessary

Unfortunately mandates are the only way to get EVs produced by the big car companies, as evidenced by Californias mandate. They made them because they had to (and to compete they wanted to make the best EV they could) but they didnt let people buy them to allow time to fight the mandate, and then on...

Mandates force environmental responsibility.

The only reason they were able to reacquire the EVs in CA and crush them is because they were careful to let few if any be sold to the public. The lease-only option gave them time to apply corporate pressure and overturn the mandate, which when overturned conveniently translated into "we wont r...
