Re: Self designed EV trike-real world experience.

I know this is not great but I don't have an ammeter! I know when I am using more amps merely from the voltage sag. I built the vehicle in a minimalistic way. I have monitored the motor temperature to make sure I am not over stressing it. I have also checked the controller temp. and all is well. I h...

Self designed EV trike-real world experience.

I said I'd keep you abreast of my experience with my EV trike. I've covered 527 miles so far. My trikes information is best accwssed on "EV albums" where it is described as a Kirk EV or "Sparky". Briefly it is a 2F1R trike with a Mars ME0709 motor, Alltrax 7234 controller and 6 E...

Re: My EV lives!

Greg, thanks for the advice, I saw similar for £12.95, about £20 in P and P and VAT so I will get one. In the meantime I have studied my charger profile and, although my conclusions may be somewhat out, I am calculating about 125-130 Wh/mile at low 30s cruising speeds. Sorry if I bore anyone but tod...

Re: My EV lives!

I researched an EV project in 2007 but didn't start to build. It was when I saw the claims of the Vectrix scooter in September 2008 that I really started to regain faith in EVs. I saw that with a small battery capacity of only 3750Wh Vectrix claimed a range of 35-55 miles. This got me thinking again...

Re: Price of insurance

Try Adrian Flux. They specialise in kit and specialist vehicles. They have a bike division calle Bikesure. Both my self built trikes are insured with them.

Re: What should the BVS be for?... in a mass market EV world.

It would seem prudent to have a forum based discussion before the October AGM to define what members and, equally importantly, non members want the society to be. If the committe were to disregard the conclusions of such a discussion this would surely mean the end of the BVS. The internet is and des...

Re: 2010 Kit car shows, and the BVS, from Ed

Tim, I am just waiting for my registration number after the usual lenghty fight with the DVLA local office. I have decided to give Newark a miss this year. I want to test Sparky and get some data before anything else. I hope to be on the road next week unless some annoying jobsworth can find another...

Re: What should the BVS be for?... in a mass market EV world.

I agree with the above. I too have strayed to DIY electric cars for advice, help and a sense of community. I do like the sound of swappable, standardised battery pack though. I thought about it when I first considerd an EV a few years ago but have never heard anyone suggesting that it could happen. ...

Re: ADAM SMITH COLLEGE >>>EV

Sorry to be picky but 600 miles from John O' Groats will only land you in the Bristol area, not Lands End. Still I believe that the society members in that area are active and friendly, so at least you should be able to get a charge and a cup of tea.

Re: New AGM batteries now available

I've mentioned before that the FLAs have been redesigned and are now a sealed design. I also told Steve at Elecsol that I was using them in an EV and he thought I would be OK. My controller is currently set to 180A max. output current. So a 48V (about 40mph) in my trike the ampage draw on the 72V ba...
