Re: Axima mega city - that works fine?

An ammeter and voltmeter would certainly be useful to see what is happening as you drive. In my opinion analogue meters are easier to read at a glance. I have used meters from Howard Butler (http://www.hobut.co.uk) who will provide a suitable shunt and label their ammeter with the required current r...

Re: Hybrids register

The pick-list of hybrids in your poll is quite limited. there are a lot more hybrids on the market nowadays. I have a Toyota Auris - same system as the Prius but a smaller car. Hybrids don't have to appeal only to tecchies - in facty tecchies might realise that some aspects are a bit over-hyped and ...

Re: On street charging points

I have some very old information about this. In 1997 I met a physicist called Simon Roberts who applied to install a charging post outside his (terraced) home. He did eventually get approval from Lambeth Council for the installation, although I am not 100% certain whether or not he actually installe...

Re: swapping wet cells for gel..advice needed

Are you able to adjust the settings of your existing charger? The important thing is to avoid gassing - this does not matter with wet cells (so long as you keep the water topped up) and as Gareth says this can even be good for wet cells. But if a sealed battery gasses it will be drying out, and ther...

Re: Elcat motor blower fan needed

See my first post. Has anyone seen a fan like this - where could I get another? Here are pictures - I have slightly separated the two halves of the casing. The air filter seems to have been added as an afterthought - it is just glued on to the casing. My garage man thinks the air filter is from a mi...

Elcat motor blower fan needed

Are there any Elcat owners who can help me? Mine is showing a warning light that the traction motor is overheating. On investigation I find that the blower fan which cools the motor is not working - the brush assembly is burned out. Unfortunately the fan has no markings whatsoever, so I don't know w...

Alan Ward of the BVS has done an electric conversion of a microcar - I think a Ligier. I am almost certain that he used Lithium batteries

Re: How good are modern PV panels in cloudy/shady conditions

I have had a 3kW installation for about 18 months now. Clearly the best output is when bright sun is shining straight at them, ie at 1pm (summer time) assuming the roof faces due South. However, earlier in the morning, and later in the afternoon, when the sun is not shining so directly onto the pane...

Re: Battery series/parallel question

Adding one battery in parallel to only one of the existing four will not help. The remaining 3 will run flat almost as quickly as they do at present. True, the parallel pair will by then only be half discharged but they won't be able to push a useful amount of current through the 3 flat batteries (o...
