Re: Old BMS Hardware Thread
I don't believe it! :( Just tried it again and it's flakey using the charger and needs the RC filter to run the controller. The scope shows the same interference it did before. Did I just dream it was fixed? Will definitely need to try the filter chip. The controller interference looks like regular ...

Re: Old BMS Hardware Thread
Thanks for the excellent suggestions gentlemen. Seems to be working now. Simple 5.1 zener from picaxe input pin to ground. and no RC filter! Just for the science of it, i'll scope it tomorrow and report my findings. The noise coming from the controller didn't seem to be as high in amplitude a...

Re: Old BMS Hardware Thread
I am still trying to iron out my interference problem. I thought the slaves were playing up but now I'm not so sure. The master bus is much improved by the addition of a low pass filter, but still I get interference if I give the throttle a good stab. It always seems to be battery 13 that throws up ...

Re: Old BMS Hardware Thread
Still plodding along with the V1 master and my own slaves. Been getting a lot of interference when the motor is spinning though! I have quietened down the noise on the master bus with a RC lowpass filter (1K/32nf) and some clip on ferrites. The slaves had a slightly more interesting problem, ferrite...

Re: Melted battery terminal!!!!
The red top batteries are just an AGM style that are reputed to withstand deep cycling (if one believes the manufacturer). I'm using 160aH x 13 for 156v nominal. Google for SEC industrial battery and you can get the info on them. I paid circa £150 +vat per 12v battery. My project is an old 1952 Wols...

Re: Melted battery terminal!!!!
Hi EV_dub, When you say your controller overheats when driving slowly in a high gear, I think you're right to suggest that although the battery amps are low the controller amps will be high. Remember the motor turns amps into torque, and driving in a high gear requires more torque thus more amps. I ...

Re: Melted battery terminal!!!!
Hi EV_dub I agree with Chris that you may have fractured the terminal during tightening, but also notice the battery might be able to move about. If the battery can move about you could get the cable straining the terminal causing metal fatigue although a 35mm cable shouldn't be that stiff. Is the c...

Re: BMS Hardware
Hi Guys,
Just ordered one of these to monitor my charging current. Seems cheap so I thought it worth a punt!

Re: BMS Hardware
Derek IMO you would be better to keep the opto to prevent interference from your pump motor getting back into the Master board. Peter, The only reason I didn't use the opto is because I couldn't be bothered sorting out a separate 5v supply for the logic level mosfet. Extreme laziness(1reg 2caps), b...

Re: BMS Hardware
I have made a crude screenshot of the circuit used to drive the coolant pump for my Zilla controller. The master mk1 board was de-populated at the controller cut back output to give a bare output except for a 470 ohm current limit resistor. Controller cutback was on output 4 which is physical pin 25...
