Best motor

Hi Dave Your knowledge of obscure motors is impressive. Have you heard of an Italian firm, Best Motor, from Limidi near Modena ? Chris 'geeky grilli' gave me one of his ex-fork lift motors made there, which was very generous and it looks sound to me. Do you know anything about these; 48Vdc series 9k...

Battery Rental

My apologies Nikki; and the Mitsubishi may be a better choice. They have a very good history in electronics AND vehicles. The Think styling is very neat, but the weight is clearly too high and performance sluggish. Naturally most people will go for the easy life; remember the saying "ignorance ...

Battery Rental

Since reading the latest "Plugged In" I see why Nicky started this debate. The Think City is to be supplied with batteries owned by the company, who will keep a check on it's condition via satellite communications. I also note Nicky has been talking to this company. Are you doing some mark...

6.5" D&D stall torque

In theory this should be calculable, Tom. Torque = hp x 33000, divided by 2Pi x rpm. Hp = watts divided by 746, and of course watts is volts x amps. Working this sum out for 1rpm I get 5371 lb-ft torque, but you have to allow for a huge drop in motor efficiency at stall. It could well be only one qu...

battery rescue

http://www.marine-electronics.net/techarticle/battery_faq/b_faq.htm#12 gives a very detailed coverage of lead acid battery sulfation and rescue, without trying to sell anybody anything. Worth looking at.

NRG cells

I got this quote from John.Grzan@WorleyParsons.com He's a director there. He said I could find more info on their website: WorleyParsons.com/AES I did find batteries eventually; they seem to do everything ! But the price put me off. Remembering that Ian's Lifebatt packs come wi...

Lifebatts costs

A couple of posts back I reported that Worley Parsons in Singapore quoted me US$1.50/watt hour for their NRG cells. I thought this was horrendous until I did the sums for Lifebatts. Even the USA price mentioned above makes them $2.08/watt hour. When you add in the fact that the NRG's are near one qu...

Lifebatts

Lifebatt 10Ah cells weigh around 370 g each and have a nominal voltage of 3V, so 30 Wh/0.37 = 81 Wh/kg. Maybe you did your sums based on the weight of the ready-built Lifebatt packs? Correct. Note that this includes BMS. I wonder what the figure for Thundersky includes ? However, you remind me that...

Low wattage input

After reading a couple of the more interesting (and witty) threads here can I offer a couple of thoughts ? When considering wind turbines some time back the low input problem gave me an idea: forget charging batteries and then inverting, with losses at each stage. Just disconnect the electric elemen...

Battery Choices

Thanks for the useful data, Malcolm. That 60% useful capacity for lead acid figure is particularly helpful. What sort of speeds do you generally travel at ? I recently bought a car battery from a very helpful and reasonable chap in Llandudno, http://www.electroquestuk.com . On their site are a wide ...
