Joining this debate a bit late but here's my two penneth. I'm not the first to suggest that we can and should get off the oil asap. Take a look at David Sandalow's Freedom from oil if you get a chance. He analyzes a good number of options and concludes the PHEV is the best, but if you read the small...

Nikki you are well and truly "in the zone" ("" makes achange from brackets, doh!) If you have the knack for gettng into the 60's the rest is down to weather and road conditions, and that's just luck  I think the PHEV upgrade is a good idea I can really see it paying-off in h...

Following yesterday's thread killer  Here is the promised update from my refill. Got to 594 miles this morning and the last blob on the fuel gauge was not flashing so there was easily another 50+ miles in the tank. I found unleaded at 114.9p so I was not going to let that get away. I got 40.04...

Time for a caveat: My comments about tyre pressures and cruise control etc are all based on having considered any saftey implications, I am not suggesting that anyone else should try to copy them unless the consider they saftey factors for themselves. i.e Setting the cruise control is not an oportun...

Tim you are right that cruise control cannot see hills so cannot predict the need to build up speed or to ease off but I do believe that it can be used as an aid to economy on the Prius. It can maintain a steady speed on a level road very well with minimum power input and will often do it with just ...

Here's a teaser. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn31/marktime20/Graphs%20n%20stuff/PriusMileage.jpg The Pink line shows the MPG calculated after each refill (miles travelled over gallons to refill the tank). MPG on the left axis. Beginners mileage on the left during the winter of 2006 improving ...

The EMF is strong with this one, gentle with the gas pedal you must be. Yes Nikki I do run the tyre pressures a bit high, the label inside the drivers door has a graphic showing the correct settings for unladen or for loaded/ high speed use. I take the figures for loaded / high speed and add 2 psi s...

Anyone got a Honda Civic IMA?

Has anyone got or had or driven the Honda Civic IMA. I did have a test drive of one before I chose my Prius but I did not feel that it was the car for me. I know that Honda have been pushing them hard in the fleet market and I do ocasionally see one on the road (no where near as many as Prius). My l...

Nikki, I did something similar during the winter months but I wedged a piece of packing foam in front of the radiator but behind the grille. I had to unscrew a plastic cover from the top of the radiator area for access. I felt that it made a positive difference to economy when the weather was cold b...
