Mini 12F683 Master

I now have a 12F683 based Mini Master working on my 12 x A123 20Ah cell cycle pack. 8) It uses a part populated 16 cell slave board so I can expand to 16 cells if I want a bit more omph. It is greatly simplified and uses a serial Sparkfun 20x4 lcd display. It does not at the moment do SOC or TEMP b...

Re: Old BMS General Thread

Cell 26 bad slave or flat battery that prevents the slave bus signal being passed to next slave anyway. So everything above 26 if garbage. You need to diagnose cell/slave 26 I don't want to be a forteller of doom but are you using liPo? Be careful. You have made a lot of changes to the softw...

Re: Old BMS General Thread

If the number of cells is now right and it all worked OK before and you are now getting cell 29 serial error then yes could be the cell group is dead/very low <2v Command one tells the slave to send the cell voltage to the master. It does not display it. Going into the menu1 and pressing up should d...

Re: Lifepo4 cells catch fire!

He had tried soldering the tabs but found it ruined the cells. Seems that a delayed reaction would occur inside the cells and they would start to swell after a while. But then they are a different chemistry than the A123 cells. That's not an issue with A123 unless you go berserk and heat the tabs u...

Re: Lifepo4 cells catch fire!

I've used 50 x A123 pouch cells assembled in a block for two years. I soldered the tabs together, they work very well in my phev application. ASFAIK as Greg has mentioned cells only catch fire if wildly abused or some other wiring short sets them on fire. As Greg's vehicle was destroyed we will neve...

That all sounds very sensible.

Are any alarms being triggered?

Re: EDF message that 13A sockets have 'safety implications'

I agree to a point under a 3kw load a UK plug is marginal. A cheap plug and a cheap socket incereases the danger even more. Ditto old tarnished pins and sloppy fuses etc. The socket wiring is not so much of an issue, it's the contact between the plug pins and socket and the seating and quali...
