Re: Details for next years UK electric car subsidies announced

160km is marginal for me - I do ~135km/day. 200 mile range in 5 years is great, but the incentives will be long gone. Roll on Tesla Model S...

Re: Details for next years UK electric car subsidies announced

I do think that £260 million could install a brilliant public transport system in at least one British city. One bus route with a dedicated lane costs £48m. The same link says rail costs £23m per km. We'd get 10km of rail for the cost of this subsidy. Properly done, public transport can be quicker ...

Re: Details for next years UK electric car subsidies announced

Yes, with me it's more of a philosophical difference - I just don't think that private transport should be subsidised by the public sector. The car is after all supposed to be about the rugged individual and the free market, isn't it? So why should cars be subsidised by the taxpayer? IMO that money...

Re: Details for next years UK electric car subsidies announced

They're trying to stimulate EVs with specifications that the average person wouldn't laugh at. Most people will laugh if you say your car can only travel 30 miles or has a top speed of 40mph. I'm an EV advocate but I wouldn't buy a car with those stats. As for helping out those with less money, peop...

Re: Details for next years UK electric car subsidies announced

The first low-cost electric cars (i.e. sub £20k) are really going to be aimed at people who are predominantly driving shorter distances or driving around towns. A car with an advertised 100 mile range and 70mph top speed won't be able to do 70mph for 100 miles. For an electric car to be practical f...

Re: Details for next years UK electric car subsidies announced

The Reva NXR is just about usable for me - 134km/day - but I doubt it'd do 134km in the rain, with the lights on at its top speed of 64mph on the motorway. Of course it wouldn't. I know of no commercially available electric car that can, other than the £90,000 Tesla. If you are regularly planning o...

I can't believe all these incentives for electric cars and nothing to buy. Companies can save a fortune. If there was a s...

Re: Details for next years UK electric car subsidies announced

Great news! All we need now are some cars that can do 70 miles on a charge, more than 60mph and are significantly cheaper than the Tesla Roadster. Do these cars have to be production vehicles, or could a kit car manufacturer release a turn-key range that fits the bill?

Re: SAM Cree is back as Re-Volt!

If only it was a 150km range - I could just about use that. It's just fast enough for the motorway and 150km would get me to work and back.

It's a great resource. It's surprising to me that the figures are so high. I've no idea how many miles I'd get to one kwh but I do know that whilst your GWiz gets 10km/kWh, it doesn't get to anywhere near the national speed limit. I don't know which cycle they use to evaluate the CO2 emissions. Is i...
