Re: Off grid battery / lighting / lathe etc
Hi All, I have bought a Nikko 2.7kW 48v dc motor, with a brake, off ebay. I have not picked it up yet but it will at the weekend. It has four terminals. three at one end of the motor body and one at the other. I will need to quiz you about these connections. Is there a Nikko Motor guru here? I want ...

Re: Off grid battery / lighting / lathe etc
Hi All,
I have decided to go for 48v battery and may go for 240v ac for all lighting. It seems the easiest way to get all the usual home things in the home and then just leave the batteries, inverter and other stuff the wife would not understand out in another room she never goes in.

Off grid battery / lighting / lathe etc
We are making our plans to move to Wales, maybe sometime next year. We will be part of this group... http://www.lammas.org.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but we will be slightly more 'techno' than the others. My plan is to have a willow burning stirling cycle engine generating aro...

Re: Tractor from scrap yard finds.
The gearbox does have reverse. That could be confusing to have a reversing control and reverse gear. You could have the motor reversed and in reverse gear and go forwards. It would be better to keep the motor rotating the same way as the engine did. Reversing the input to the gearbox might cause thr...

Re: Tractor from scrap yard finds.
Ahh.
PM....Permanent Magnet......doh....I knew that one
Series wound running away....I did not realise they did that.
Sepex...Separately exited. I presume that is what the Curtis controllers use as they have a separate field connection and I presume it swaps the polarity to reverse the motor?

Re: Tractor from scrap yard finds.
I have decided that an electric tractor would be useful if we get the planning permission for our project. I have a suitable old lawn tractor but none of the conversion parts. I see you have plans for greater things so if you decide to sell your tractor / or parts of/ I would be very interested. Ro...

Re: Battery charging from 48v DC
If you will already have a 48V house battery charging system, that has a safe voltage limit, then I'd suggest you don't need a charger at all, but could just couple the tractor batteries up in parallel with the house batteries. There is a risk that the initial charge current may be a little high, d...

Battery charging from 48v DC
Hi All, I am wanting to convert our little garden tractor to battery power. See my wanted ad for a motor / controller. I am not sure what voltage the tractor may end up as it depends on the motor and controller I manage to get. My other issue is we would eventually and hopefully be off grid and runn...

Re: Tractor from scrap yard finds.
Some good news and some bad news. Good news: I have video of me, and my Dad, driving the tractor about in first gear. second was a bit too fast and bouncy on the cobbles and there is no padding on the seat. Re: Remote cut off switch
I worked as a designer at Lola Cars in Huntingdon.
What we used on the Le-Mans cars was just a mains switch which had an inbuilt triggering system connected with a smaller signal wire. They were made by MK or Wylex or similar. We cut off the mounting lugs to make them fit in.
