All I know is that there was a UK importer between about 1991 and 1999 in the southwest going by the name CityCom UK.

It's sadly (or maybe not if this is the same people) not in business any more so us CityEl owners are forced to go to Germany or Denmark for spares.

Still, look on the bright side: It's got me learning German at last!

Yep that'll be Nigel. Trust me he's absoloutely no idea at all about cars of any sort but he's a good con-artist ooops I mean salesman. Hmmm aren't they one and the same ? :? I've fixed one of his customers cars too which he had pratted about for months with cack handed excuses blaming everthing to wriggle out of a waranty claim. All it was was a loose sensor wire and I had it fixed in 5 minutes when we dropped by to say hello to a fellow owner of one of the cars he is currently hawking about at the moment. He must be heading for a record regarding the number of name changes his company has gone under. It's a real shame what he's done to some cracking little vehicles though in this country.

Ohh I must add ALEGEDLY here

It is sad when a company seems to care more about profit than the customers who help them to get that profit. :

If it was him, then I did well.

As I recall, I charged him £80 (@ £20 per hour).

Hey Booboo, looking at your photos it has cleaned up nicley, I viewed it during the ebay auction and the white one looked very grubby. The pile of bits in the back put me off too.
I see you are based in Crawley, that is an area I sometimes cover at work, I will be looking out for you when you get it on the road.

Hi - yep, it did clean up well. Took me a whole day though, shame when people don't look after things..creates work for the rest of us !

Fingers crossed the pile of bits in the boot is nothing too serious, I don't think they knew what they were doing when they took it apart.

Sunday should prove interesting

It's amazing how well a City El will clean up. Mine always looks better after a spit and polish.

Hopefully mine will be there on Sunday (alas with the current roof since the stupid bits still haven't even been SENT from Germany yet so you can see I'm not impressed!) - but John's may not be as he's got one of these broken springs. Unless I can get the other spring off the other City El It'll be stuck at his house and not at Cribbs :(

Have you had any more news on the bits you've ordered? I've found out that Twike Tyres are £26+ delivery from Twike UK - but that they may not fit if (how should we put this?) the driver+load is heavy as they are taller than the regular City El tyres.

I might have to stick with standard tyres, as I am rather partial to the odd pie or two :)

The chap in Denmark seems to have gone a bit quiet since I've ordered some parts from him , might just be compiling the order etc.
He did say that he does a single "contactor/relay" that replaces the two that are fitted to my mini-el. So I've ordered one, might be worth the risk.

Now that I have (hopefully) got the parts on their way, I am thinking about turning my attention to registering the beastie. Do you have an idiots guide to dealing with the DVLA handy ? Not done this before,so I may be asking a few (more) silly questions ...

You'll need the original import forms (if you have them) and a proof of some sort which says the car was made prior to 1997. (perhaps a bill of sale?)

Other than that you'll need the required insurance documents and MOT pass.
We can help with that on Sunday :)

If there is import paperwork the DVLA seem to want to go through it with a fine tooth comb and can cause all sorts of delays. If they're not satisfied with the paperwork you might not be able to register the vehicle at all!

If you can get a dating letter, then ignore the import paperwork and just apply for an age related plate.

A dating letter needs to be from an approved source and most motorcycle or car clubs in the UK with access to VIN records have DVLA approval, but that of course won't help with a Citi-El.

Letters from overseas clubs are usually accepted as would of course one from the manufacturer (past or present).
