Hi to owners of the Oxygen scooter ( or any other electric scooter ) The main problem with the sealed lead acid batteries is that they do not like deep discharge and have a terrible range especially if you live in a hilly area. The only battery to go for is the Li-Ion Lithium batteries.
I converted mine from Lead acid and fitted a Lithium charger and BMS System and now enjoy a 90Km range on the Lithium Batteries
The chap that has these kits ( not inc battery as you need to get locally) has two more and the cost is 150.00 US or 100 Euro plus postage which is a great price when you consider the Charger alone now is 800 US.
They have come out of the Oxygen Cargo scooter 36 volt as the scooters were converted to 48 volt 120 km and they are in full working order.
So dont give up CONVERT to Lithium and throw our the lead acid

My Cargo is 48 volts, and I need to do something as it's currently unusable. The nickel zincs can't be replaced, and lead acids are a lower voltage and I'm told would be cooked by the charger.

I love the idea of lithium iron but they're still horrifically expensive compared to other types. There are some 18-volt lithiums on Ebay at a great price but I have no idea if they'd be suitable. They have a very low amp hour rate - I assume the same figure applies to lithium as to other types, in which case these would be unsuitable.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a suitable 48-volt charger and batteries, as the bike is off the road and I should be out enjoying this monsoon summer.

Hi , the way to go on the Oxygen Scooter is to fit the Lithium battery as three of these will give you a 90 Km range. If you have a different battery chemistry would will also need to fit a Lithium Specialised charger and the BMS ( Battery management system), I have the charger and BMS set for just 100 Euro if someone wants them.

18 volt? Do you mean cordless drill batteries? Yes, I imagine they would be too small for you.

What rating were your Nickel-Zinc batteries? (Ah) You can broadly use the same figures across different chemistries, until we start talking about the Peukert effect again.

The original batteries were 64 Ah and were colossal beasts.

The current ones are 40 Ah and are far better from a practical point of view. The bike actually handles OK, while it floundered around with the original batteries. I don't need a colossal range. Ten miles is enough for everything I've done, although of course it would be good to be able to go further.

Roughly how much money are we saying for the lithium batteries? It's price which is a main consideration, although of course I'd need a different charger with lead acids.

The bits at 100 euros sound a good deal but I'd then need to factor in the price of the batteries, which I assume is prohibitive from my point of view. Whatever I end up doing, I need a bit of advice as I'm not good with electrics and am afraid of not being able to wire things up properly.

I hope your scooter can be recovered and used again, but my fear is that you
are owning a Ni-Zn Cargoscooter, which is not convertible to any other kind
of feeding.


Hmmm! Do they just want to sell me a new one? I think there is evidence here that you can change their diet successfully. It's just how to do it that I would like help on.
