Zele Zagato Batteries

So, I'm debating a rather battered looking Zele Zagato which it seems needs a complete set of 8 12 volt batteries. The current owner has been trying to get it to run with 8 (old) 12 volt car batteries - without any luck. At any rate, I wondered if anyone had recommendations for replacement batteries and the kind of price I'd be looking at for them?

Well, 6Volt Trojans could be a good start. I'm not sure of the price though. 200AH should get you quite a way.

I think the T105s are also quite popular as traction batteries too.

Wait... Kate... 8*12 v... Is that what the chap told you? I thought the Zagato was a 48v car - At least, that's what all the other Zagato's I've ever seen were.

If it were 12v batteries it'd be a 96V car. Which I really really wouldn't expect!

Any of the trojan range are good really :wink:

Just as long as you match the discharge with the battery capacity, which generally means fit the bigest you can afford :lol:

Have you seen any of the reveiws of the Zagato Elcar?

They were pretty awful vehicles.

Even the Sebring Vanguard was considered to be safer, more comfortable and better handling.

Collectors vehicle; yes.

Everyday trasport; you've got to be dedicated (commited?).

Until the advent of the GM Impact (EV1) most EV's were like that, you wouldn't really want to drive one no matter what it was powered by.

Must admit its not the most beautiful vehicle in the world to start with, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder :wink:

My view is if someones willing to give ANY ev a bash then thats good and if its cheap then thats even better, my first EV was a rusted out old BedfordCF van with a set of batteries that would just about do 25miles and consume more water than me on the morning after I've been on the juice :lol:

Yes it might put some off if they own a naff vehicle to start with but I've generally found that once people get the EV grin there hooked regradless 8)

Well, the main thing my mum's after it for is a 5 mile journey; something like the city-el or an electric bike would - in many respects be fine; except that it's a nasty little back-road and people are less likely to notice the city-el than they are a full-size (at least vertically and horizontally, if not front to back) car.

As it happens whilst normally she's a super-tidy person she drove her 15 year old peugot to and from there with moss growing on it and bent front wings, bits of trim missing and non-matched seats. And she rides a tricycle there (a rather rusty one I made (just about) roadworthy for her) in the spring and autumn. So a slightly battered EV doesn't seem to concern her.

However, I've just discovered that this chap with the Zagato, he may be advertising it in 'Good Condition' but it doesn't actually *move* and he's possibly done it some (hopefully limited) damage by running it on 96 instead of 48 volts. Ach, so we'll see.
