It looks like Peters ex-BT route is the way to go..
I took my mini-el out today, after leaving it on charge since Saturday afternoon, and managed 10km before getting within 3 segments of the "red zone"..slightly better performance than last week, but below what I need for reliable use.

I'd still give the gel batteries from Twike a go as the City El charger is really quite picky about what batteries it'll charge. You also end up with support if anything goes wrong
But, if the ex BT ones are cheap it's still a winner even if they don't turn out to work out

Thanks everyone,
I was going to buy the Exide 110ah(C/5) batteries, now I'm not sure. Those gel batts look so, well how can I put it, Cheap!
I will stay clear of elecsols and varta.
Looking at the gel batts on ebay, they have some at 95 ah that will fit, but I need to know what the C/5 or better still the C/1 rate is. I think the Exide's C/1 rate to be aprox. 80ah, I can buy them from CMP batteries for £104 each incl. delivery, what do you think?
