Apparently the GM Volt has a range of 40miles, then 'an on-board motor' kicks in to charge the batteries - perpetual motion!!!

Sounds like a hybrid to me, just one with a long time between motor starts.

I thought that the original PR blurb said this was a pure EV?

Mind you, this seems like a reasonable option to get long range and keep consumers happy.
