I had a similar problem with the Elektrobay post in the Potteries shopping centre, Hanley. Tim Strutt also had difficulty. Not starting to charge, or tripping out sometime later. We both drive Berlingos.

This was a couple of years ago now, so hopefully Elektromotive have sorted out the problem.

I have been assured that this isnt a problem with the Elektromotive points now

Good news! Thanks for that, Chris. I wonder what they did to fix it.

Dunno, I could find out if you want, but suspect they have just added a longer time delay between seeing no power being drawn to it registering a fault.

I have told Cale Briparc that Elektrobay had similar issues, hopefully they passed this onto the manufacturers of the outlets. If im honest I dont hold out much hope of this getting resolved anytime soon.. They just didnt seem that connected to the issues or EVs at all.
Still time will tell.

I've had trouble with the Elektromotive points tripping out in Coventry - and they've only been in use for a couple of months. In fact, I suspect I was the first person to use these particular points.

I had problems with another make of charging point in Leamington Spa which was down to the thickness of cables. To their credit, they came out and fixed the problem within a couple of days.

Has anyone had any experience of the charging points in Oxford? They've gone straight to 32 amp charging, which is fabulous. They launched the system at almost exactly the same time as the MINI-e trial (which was the only 'mainstream' electric car with 32 amp charging) came to an end and the cars were withdrawn in the Oxford area.

Great timing, eh?

As far as I know Bury st Edmunds is still un touched. The suppliers have made some sort of addon cable/ box that has a small resistor in it to fool their system into thinking their is still something connected to it. I havnt heard back from them, they asked to meet up and try it out. So dont encourage this company to install power outlets as they just dont work. Neither have they addressed the issue of the cable slot being too small.

When you say tripping out, do you mean the Auto RCD's opperating or them thinking nothing is plugged into them (during when the charger might take an off charge voltage reading ) and thus they drop out thinking theres a fault ??

Are they the new HF points (need a circular disk tag) or the older LF points (needing the small barrel like tag)

I finally re-visited Bury ST Edmunds (I managed to charge at another site) and the solution provided is a plastic box with a cable and socket, that has a constant load in it. So thats a really effecient solution. You cant just roll up and use the facility, you need to get the box from the car park office.
I fine Cale Briparks approach to be highly unprofessional and a total disgrace to the cause of extending use of electric vehicles.

SO if ypu have the opportunity of guiding any potential purchasers away from their EV facilities. Do. Aparently the kit was designed for Electric vehicle heating power, as used in scandinavian countries. That would also account for the problems we had in being able to shut the lid on a heavy cable.

A couple of minutes work having the slots machined to size... and they can't. That is so sloppy.
It fit's in with the infuriating statement some EV is old tech.. EVERY charger, including any BMS controlled charger worth anything, needs to stop the charge to read SoC.

I guess a quick answer for when intelligent chargers stop to check SoC which knocks off the supply. Suggest switch your heater and/or lights on?

It's a sad state of affairs when people who go by the name of engineers are simply not!
