In an interesting development, "Solar Roadways" has reached it's $1m crowdsource funding via the indiegogo site, to start scale production of their prototype Solar Road Panels that have taken popular media by storm.

According to the company's founders Scott and Julie Brusaw - the new tiles are robust to harsh pressures (including large agricultural vehicles riding over them), can melt snow and ice from the road, can be programmed to change things like car parking and lanes according to things like lack or excesses of disabled parking spots, roadworks, animals crossing and other changing factors - along with one claim that combined with more intelligent inductive charging techniques, could continually charge EV car batteries whilst driving without having to rely on non-renewable power sources.
