Moulton bike conversion

Postby rcflyer » Mon Sep 08, 2008 1:59 pm

I have had some success with my electification of an old Moulton sprung-frame bicycle. A brushed 250Watt motor drives a Moulton bike rear wheel and 4-speed Sturmey-Archer hub gear, fitted to the front fork. It needs some pedal assistance uphill, on two 12V gel-cell batteries in series(a bit heavy!), but gives a range of about 10 miles, with pedal power when it is easy. Drive through the hub gear means that the electric drive free-wheels when not needed- and gives me some excercise on flat roads. Top speed about 15/18 mph
