Are Hybrids allowed... + more news soon, honest, from Ed.

Postby ex925 » Sun Apr 05, 2009 10:26 am

Thanks RetepSnikrep, for the timely reminder....
I apologise for forgetting to think of type eligibility when I slung together my first attempt at a draft set of rules.
My unthinking assumption would be to include anything that even vaguely advanced the carbon reduction / EV cause, let alone shining examples such as Insights and Priuses
(what's the plural of Prius? - "Prieux??")

Does everyone agree that we should be as inclusive as possible?

Within a few more days, I hope to have some news about potential venues...
Meantime, would everyone who has a proposed location in mind please consider gathering any information possible, so I can assemble something like a spreadsheet for comparison, and we can all make as fully informed a choice as possible.

Yes, I confess, I'm trying to get others to do as much of the work as I can get away with, but even just a venue name - and, if possible, contact details - will help. In those instances I will get in touch with the venue staff.

As soon as time allows after that I will post a comparison table, and we can all try to choose the location that we hope will draw the most entrants, and at the most reasonable cost.

Regarding costs, does anyone else take the view that cheapest is only best if it is also the most efficient and effective?
In other words, do members value what could perhaps be called "End-of-the-day-grin-factor" highest?

I hope other BVS members are enjoying the prospect of another Electrathon as much as I am.......
All the best, from Ed. in Plymouth :D

News re a possible venue, from Ed. in Plymouth

Postby ex925 » Mon Apr 06, 2009 9:27 am

One potential venue is the Bedford Raceway as a combined event with the Greenpower regional on Sunday September 20th 2009, on a separate circuit not being used by Greenpower on the day.
Recently, their sponsor for that day withdrew, but Greenpower are determinedly seeking an alternative sponsor for the £5k+ needed.
Provided Greenpower find another main sponsor, AND IF we in the BVS choose Bedford, AND IF Bedford Raceway owners are still content not to charge BVS separately, our contribution to Greenpower would be £500.
This covers toilets and catering, but NOT insurance

That's a lot of "ifs".... And there are a few more we have not addressed yet.

Access to "our" circuit while the Greenpower event is in progress, charging facilities, BVS parking, all the normal minor details that would need to be settled, whichever location we in the BVS finally choose.

At least it gives us a starting point for cost comparison with other potential venues.
So far, I have not found any venue proprietor willing to allow the BVS, (or any other group as far as I can find out) a "Freebie".... Must be the recession...

So, anyone with a potential venue in mind, please post any info, or contact details, and I will assemble as many comparable alternatives as soon as possible, so we can choose.
And then the talking ends and the reality begins............
Can't wait
Ed. :D  :o  :?

Electrathon 2009, progress.... from Ed.

Postby ex925 » Wed May 06, 2009 4:50 pm

Hi, folks, hope all's well for you and yours
Recurrent post-op. effects have cramped my productivity this year so far
I am STILL trying to finish the MkII Junkyard Dog in time for the Tour De Presteigne....
Then, I looked up, and it's MAY already!
I promised to assemble an Electrathon 2009 potential venue list for the AGM.
So far, suggested potential venues include:
A kart track near Sparkford in Dorset
Shakespeare County Raceway, near Stratford on Avon
Curborough Sprint Circuit, between Lichfield and Burton on Trent
Bedford Raceway, "not too far from Luton"
However...........
Bedford could only be afforded by the BVS as an add-on event to the Greenpower event.......
BUT: Greenpowers' sponsor for that event has pulled out, and it is off their calendar unless they can find another backer
I still hope to find a venue which is central to the UK, and affordable
AND, I am an optimist by nature, so PLEASE post any ideas to increase our chances
Thank you
All the best,
from Ed.

Do you mean Sparkford in Somerset? Haynes Motor Museum has a large kart track out the back that can be rented. I've rented it for a day myself for testing. It's small for cars (~70mph is all I managed) but more than adequate for karts. There are several circuit configurations, although the longest requires a single vehicle on track at any time. It's a good fun track.

Cheers,
Andy

Clay Pigeon? On the A37, between Yeovil and Dorchester.

Search for venue & date, Electrathon 2009

Postby ex925 » Tue May 19, 2009 12:02 pm

Search for a venue and a suitable date for the 2009 BVS Electrathon May 19th 2009

The Greenpower event at Bedford Raceway on 20 09 09 is definitely off, so we cannot use the spare circuit on that day
Other possibilities are:
Kinsham karting, nr. Presteigne, Wales, August Bank Holiday Monday,
and Kimbolton or Shennington, (dates to be advised, if all else feasible)
More soonest
Ed.
