VW EL1

I have just read about a new VW concept car, so sadly you can't buy it.

Even if half the stuff on it makes it into a production car the results will be stunning.

Looks very good indeed, but will anything like it come to mass market soon?
I hope so, but won't (also can't, not for long enough...) "hold my breath"
All the best

Autocar have it on the front cover this week. They say that a limited production run may happen in a couple of years. Suggestions that ~£30k may be about right. I see no reason why a similar car could not be built as a kit car though. Take a Sevenesque chassis, a windscreen from a Stratos replica and a sleek aerodynamic body and you've got the car. Engine-wise, I'd recommend a 600cc bike engine, although some may prefer a (heavier) 1400TDCI engine (a Ford TDCI engine will fit a RWD 'box). All-up weight would be around 650-700kg and 100bhp would give a power/weight over 140bhp/ton, so would feel quite nippy. I bet it'd deliver fantastic economy, even without the hybrid gubbins.

Above figures include track days and the odd competition.
