noob with usual questions

Do you own or use a EV. Then this is a good place to discuss things.

noob with usual questions

Postby stormbird » Thu Mar 20, 2008 2:35 pm

Hi all

Been a member of BVS for a couple of years but only just discovered this forum. I have a MIG welder which I am learning how to use and have some rudimentrary electrical knowledge [ which I know is dangerous ! ]

I have no EV currently but have an idea for a future machine.

Having spent ages reading these posts [ working in computers helps time wise :) ] I have the following data.

Mission specific !

My Mission:-

To carry 2 people and a couple of small cases [ say 8 bags of shopping ]

for up to 40 miles [ 50 miles would be better ]
max speed 45mph [ 50mph would be better ]

This will cover about 80% of the journeys my wife and I do.

Oh and I like to be seen

So I an considering building a copy of one of these :-

http://www.rqriley.com/u-trike.htm

changing it somewhat so I can eventually give it a body like this :-

http://www.3wheelers.com/vigilante.html

The idea is to start off with the bare trike and enough electrics to be able to use it around town say 10 mile range and 35 mph.

If this goes well it will then be upgraded as necessary till we have reached the mission goals.

Current budget is hovering around £000.00 but I need to learn how to weld first and am in no hurry.

regards Paul

Hi Paul and welcome to the forums, sorry its taken so long for you to find us

Well everyone will know what I'm going to say

Yep it sounds like your just the right person for a Berlingo  just the price might not be in your area :( but from reading your specifics it shouts berlingo at me.

Just racked 55miles in mine to day, although I did sneak a quicky hour recharge in at lunch time

One to many wheels

right number seats though

i do like to be seen - probably fails in that department

Has speed and range required.

So I give 3/5 ?

Welcome on board! I'm a bit perplexed as to how come you didn't know we were here unless perhaps it's due to the fact that the old BVS website was rather dated to say the least and wasn't worth looking at twice. Now however I'm glad to see you've discovered the monumental changes that are happening and that you are using the whole finely tuned machine to your advantage

As it happens a colleague of mine whom is working on a brand new EV with us is a total utter 2CV nut and would be absolutely delighted to chat away about everything and I do mean EVERYTHING to do with 2CVs and also H Vans if they take your fancy too! But please we are trying to keep him focused on these EVs we're developing!
