Geothermal heating

Postby floydster » Sat Sep 23, 2006 9:44 pm

Does anyone here have experience of geothermal heating? The temperatures quoted (max 15C) seem to be a bit low to be used as the main heating system for any modern house.

Hi. I think the idea is the geo heat is used with a heat pump (a backwards fridge) to get to usable energy. Unless you can get to the bowels of the earth that is. Regards John

Thanks. I think I'll concentrate on planning my wind power project for the moment. I'd probably be limited to how deep I can go because where I am if I go deeper then about two metres I hit sand. The top two metres are clay and I've been told that if I expose the sand there's a chance that enough could flow out causing the house to sink. I'll don't think I'll put it to the test just now.
