Re: Help & advice choosing batteries please
I was interested to read of this new factory in Finland for large Li-ion cells, and wonder if anyone has information on the European Batteries Co. This is from their www. Alan Li-ion battery factory in Finland. European Batteries Oy develops and manufactures large, rechargable lithium-ion based pris...

Nickel Iron NiFe cells
I also bought old misused second hand NiFe cells in the early 60s, they proved amazingly good. Once, after 2 years sitting neglected on the garage floor, they still had reasonable voltage, so I tried them in an old Austin with a large bonnet space for the battery, and they started the engine! I wish...

thermal insulation
There were many good comments about heaters earlier this year, but I can't find anything about thermal insulation. I want to re-build the battery box in the bonnet of our old Fiesta EV. This is a strange-shaped wooden box with warming wires underneath the cells. My wooden box is too bulky and awkwar...

disappointing auxiliary battery life
I was interested that Paul mentioned a 1-year life for 12 V lead-acid leisure batteries used as auxiliary batteries. Sadly, I can confirm this! - I have had had to buy 3 in 3 years, but I got one replaced free as it failed so quickly. I am interested that the sequence over the 3 years is: open top; ...

terminal to inter-connector resistance
I forgot to add that I wrote a short Letter to the Editor in the BVR for January 2006 page 29 - 30 with this 60 (now 70 ) micro-ohm figure and with the much higher figure due to my mistake:- the thin protective plastic sleeving prevented full contact area between terminal top and braid-connector. Alan

Li-ion interconnects
To add to Peter's useful list of minimising contact resistance at TS terminals, I found the larger diameter 25mm stainless steel washers better than the smaller ones supplied by TS. With far-from scruplous initial cleaning, the average resistance using TS braid inter-connects after 3 years is 70 mic...

Clutch - leave it in or not.
Thanks Jeremy. I'm sure you are correct, I had not thought of the larger coefficienct of thermal expansion for brass. So fellow EV friends - take notice! Alan Ward

With the 1989 Ford Fiesta which ChrisB kindly sold me, the average energy figures for 20,000 miles are as follows. With 30 of TS 200 Ah cells and a pair of Lynch motors, the car with my wife and myself in it weights about a ton. Most driving is in hilly country, with a lot of 10% gradient hills. At ...

clutch - leave in or not
I have read with interest Christopher’s 9 July question : Clutch – leave it in or not . And I have read the many good comments and advice which followed. ChrisB described his Fiesta EVwith no clutch, which he kindly sold me, total now 20,000 miles. I can only add one strange detail. In...
