Re: My new project

My milk truck used to have the aerodynamics of a brick, so I chopped a foot off its height.
Now it has the aerodynamics of half a brick. Hope this helps.

Re: insurance renewal

I had to change my speedometer unit so last years milage did not match with this years; but try to explain this to them. Rawlins require a photograph of the mileometer as well as photos of the rest of the vehicle. Also in the event of a claim they could read the mileometer and use this as an axcuse ...

Re: insurance renewal

Hi I have just had the plug pulled on my limited milage policy with Adrian Flux. They somehow were worried that I was going to do over 3000 miles a year in my milk float and so upped the premium to £312. (I did 600 miles this year). I have now just changed to a cherished classic vehicle policy with ...

Re: Curtis dc controller

Mine is a 1221B running a 9" Netgain Warp motor. The noise from the motor is quite pleasant suggesting quite a lot of power and sounding a bit like a tube train or if you really put your foot down then a bit like a jet plane taking off. There is no whine. I did not have to adjust the sound made...

Re: Curtis dc controller

I have a Curtis 120 volt DC controller mounted inside the cab and it does not make any noise. I have found it to be excellent with no problems in 10 years of use.

Re: Direct drive or transmission?

As regards contactors, I just use a 72 volt Albright contactor but run it at 120 volts. It works fine. My current does not go above 300 amps. When changing from forward to reverse the contacts are engaged with no current flowing so there is no danger of burning out the contacts by arcing.

Re: Direct drive or transmission?

I have found that a double electric contactor is a very easy, cheap and effective method of reversing an ev. I used this method on my truck and am using it on my trike.

Re: Direct drive or transmission?

Since you already have four wheel drive, have you thought of using two motors, one driving each axle. You could then use two fork lift truck motors which individualy are not really powerful enough for a full size car. They are however much more available at a good price in this country than the bigg...

Re: Mega City car - premature battery failure

I have not heard of this manufacturer, but personally I would tend to trust British, German or American manufacturers. I heard of one Chinese company who half filled their batteries with sand to make them heavier without lead. If you fit a different brand of batteries you may have to mess about when...
