The Ecomoped claims to have a 1500W motor, so it's too big to be classed as an "assisted pedal cycle". That means, you'll need a tax disc, registration, insurance, a bike licence and a helmet. The tax disc would be free, of course. The Sakuras (at least, the ones that I've seen) are 250W a...

I should explain a bit more about the lithium-ion cell. The oil-like fluid that we drained out was not an electrolyte, and the "plates" that you can see are not the actual working parts of the cell. I think the oil was either an electrical insulator, a heat conductor, or a way to keep wate...

OK -- how about a dashboard with integral GPS, CD/MP3 player, cruise control and ultrasonic parking assist? Then there's stuff like electric mirrors, a rear view mirror that dims when a following car has its lights on, indicator lights in the wing mirrors and a puddle light that comes on when you op...

I'd like to see the new Think car -- and I spoke to someone at the IET meeting today who was also keen on it, so there may be interest from others in the Bristol area. We'd need to make sure it was publicised properly.

BEVoB Meeting, May 2008

Just for a change, we held the May meeting of the Battery Electric Vehicles of Bristol (BVS south-west branch) at the pub in Stoke Gifford: http://www.flickr.com/photos/anachrocomputer/sets/72157604921245231/ Chris Faulkener brought along his electric bike conversion, Nikki drove in with her City-El...

Trabant EV Conversion

Yes, it's another Bristol EV photo-story, this time the conversion of an East German Trabant to electric power. It's a 120V system, with lead-acid batteries (six in the front, four in the back):

Lithium-Ion Cell and City-El Bearings

A couple of photo-sets that show the kind of crazy things that we do in Bristol -- just for fun, of course! Firstly, we have some shots of Russ and Nikki fitting new wheel bearings in a City-El: http://www.flickr.com/photos/anachrocomputer/sets/72157604028399531/ And now one that's a whole lot more ...

Glad that we were able to fix it! The faulty part that I replaced, just in case anyone was wondering, was a surge-protection diode. The original had shorted and was blowing fuses.

Yes! I've got one! Mine was imported from Germany, and is an older model (actually built as a Mini-El).
