Hi Dave,
I did not understand the 'Upwards' and 'Downwards' parts.

Upwards= increasing speed
downwards= reducing speed

Re: Saft Ni-Cd MRE battery reconditioning, (berlingo batts)
Been out of the loop on this chat :oops: With Nicads, initially there is a huge number of very tiny crystals on the surface of the positive plate, but due to a gradual change in the nickel oxide/hydroxide crystal structure, (usualy from under discharging, "memory effect") these are gradua...

Re: Saft Ni-Cd MRE battery reconditioning, (berlingo batts)
On the Berlingo, Does anyone know the minimum voltage at idle (no load) before the controller switches out?

Re: Off grid battery / lighting / lathe etc
PWM might be an option but I am not sure how that works in practice as the ons/offs are at full current so I am not sure if you might get a lot of brush wear from thousands of full current ons/offs. I have not been able to find any info about it online. Another chap on DIY Electric car forum has th...

Re: Off grid battery / lighting / lathe etc
Is there a better way of controlling the motor as a resistor is just a small electric fire and would be using electricity I could do without it using. I shall just refresh my memory to remind myself what layout the armature and field windings are in.... I know one configuration allows it to rev to ...

Re: Off grid battery / lighting / lathe etc
You could just run a resistor in series with the motor for low gears and then using a relay to bypass this resistor for heavier loads or higher gears. This would also give you a more sft start. The resistor must be able to cope with the high current though!

Re: Saft Ni-Cd MRE battery reconditioning, (berlingo batts)
Looks like one duff cell in each to me. Thats a similar result to a failing cell. Grumpy-b Its normal for Ni-cad cells to react like that. They will maintain a gradual decline in voltage and then suddenly drop. This is called the "knee" characteristic I know the minimum load voltage for t...

Re: Saft Ni-Cd MRE battery reconditioning, (berlingo batts)
A quick update: Selected 3 batts within the same voltage range (6.8v) and carried out capacity test: 100amp load over 3 batts in parallel for approx 33amps on each starting voltage under load = 6.3volts After one hour under load= 6volts after 2hrs= 5.8volts under load 2.5 hrs = 5.5v under load 2hrs ...

Re: Saft Ni-Cd MRE battery reconditioning, (berlingo batts)
Hi Tim, Well i'm no expert with Ni-Cads, althought I did a stint in the battery bay at work so I know a little. I'm a Mechanic for Flybe in Exeter. I know a couple of our guys looking for jobs with a Monarch, they must be paying better :) Whats your role, are you licenced? You must be an expert on e...
