Re: Now one of my batts overcharging!

Got them all charging at around 14.5 now, not sure how long that will last after I put them in the bike though... Seems pretty good. No chance that the sloshing around of electrolyte during riding might cause any venting then? Also, I did experience some spontaneous venting when atmospheric pressure...

Re: Now one of my batts overcharging!

Now I've got three of them gassing and one not. I can change that back though - what do you say? I'm REALLY worried about the danger of a hydrogen explosion now. One of the wires to the motor gets very hot indeed and its very close to where the batteries go. I can't discount the danger of sparks eit...

Re: Now one of my batts overcharging!

Well I've decided to discharge them for half an hour and and do number four more than the others to make them equal. Only by two or three minutes though - along with using the slower charger it seems to be working so far....

Now one of my batts overcharging!

Watered VRLAs, put dummy loads on them, discharged, recharged with scoot charger and then applied equalisation charges to three of the batts. There's still a fair bit of water in them, but I think it is starting to get soaked up by the mats. Applied the dummy loads again today and made sure to disch...

Re: Think I've overfilled my VRLAs

OMG it's getting worse - now they're spontaneously venting!! Batteries are emitting gas even with no load or charger attached!

Should I be worried, or just leave them to it - maybe this is their way of fixing themselves?

Re: Think I've overfilled my VRLAs

Oh no, not that flat - just down to about 12v or so. Done that before with no problems. Would that be OK? I don't have a sophisticated enough charger to do ultra long charges - just two scooter chargers, one which is less slow than the other. I suppose I could use the slower one and just take some o...

Re: Think I've overfilled my VRLAs

I've got an idea - what if I run them flat with a dummy load then syringe off the excess? It should be depleted of most of the electrolyte when it's flat, right? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead%E2%80%93acid_battery#Electrochemistry" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; In the discharged s...

Think I've overfilled my VRLAs

I've finally found the manual for my Noblifts (no cracks please!) and it says that they can indeed be refilled, generally as part of an equalisation charge (which I've sort-of done, didn't overcharge by much though). However it also mentions an "acid sucker", "pregnant solution state&...

Re: Watering SLAs?

Hmmm, they're definitely self-discharging a lot worse than they did before. I'll have a look inside them tomorrow.

Re: Watering SLAs?

Aaaaargh! Did as you said, then topped off electrolyte after charging each battery as some of it had boiled away. (I charged with the rubber tops off because when I put them on they popped out anyway) Now they've all gone down to about 12.8 volts! Have I put in too much water and diluted the electro...
