NEV = Neighborhood electric vehicle: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NEV And the reason you only get 90A at 34mph is that the motor is acting as a generator (simultaneously!) and producing "back EMF". This is a voltage that opposes the battery voltage, and hence reduces the current that the m...

If it's labelled 47K, than it's probably a resistor. By the look of the small photo, it's a variable resistor or "pre-set". How many wires does it have? I think I can see two in the photo, but is there a third, possibly chopped off close to the body? And the blue thing on top, does that ha...

It does look like someone's already modified the bike! The standard bike has 36V lights, which are, of course, almost impossible to buy spares for. Your 12V "dry cell" pack looks to me like a modification, possibly to re-wire the bike's lights to 12V. That way, ordinary car/motorcycle bulb...

A sharp eye you have there, sir! Yes, that's the new magazine, boxes full of 'em. We're stuffing them into envelopes at the moment, then we'll be labelling and posting them, although whether the Post Office will do anything with them after that is anyone's guess. And yes, that's Mr. (and Mrs.) Crayt...

Anyone know any EV dealerships or anything in Bristol? I think it's Pembury cycles at the bottom of Gloucester Road, nearly opposite Maplin's, who have the Powabykes. Or, you could try Atmosphere Kites at the bottom of Jacob's Wells Road, who have a few of the more scooter-like machines, I think. I...

suitably cropped to remove the Jester in the background, but retaining the cable drum supplying power.

Photos from the SHIFT 2007 Conference, Oxford

The SHIFT (Sustainable High-Innovation Fuels and Transportation) conference was held in Oxford this week, and focused mainly on hydrogen fuel-cell technologies. An interesting demonstrator vehicle was there, a fuel-cell motorcycle, as well as a hydrogen engine and a battery electric go-kart. Photos ...
