BEVoB (BVS South-West) meeting: Bristol August 5th

It'll be the first Sunday of the month again soon, and BEVoB will be meeting at the Cribb's Causeway shopping centre near Bristol. The meeting starts at 10am and goes on until around mid-day, whereupon we'll go back down to the car-park for the usual EV driving-around. You can find a map on finding ...

Great news! Glad to hear that the El moves under its own power. Are all the accessories OK for the MOT (apart from that horn you mentioned)? Mine was missing the windscreen washer (now replaced). You'll need to make sure that the MOT garage can do (a) three-wheelers (b) very narrow three-wheelers an...

Bristol road run: Sunday 2nd September

We've been out today and planned the route for the first ever Bristol road run. We chose the route to be easy on the vehicles, so the hils (unavoidable in Bristol) are as gentle as possible. It's in two segments, one starting at the Cribb's Causeway charging point and ending at the Create Centre. Th...

Try searching around for the Open Source Motor Controller project. It's intended as a robot controller for Robot Wars robots, but could be used in smaller EVs too. The project home page is based on a Yahoo group.

Now, forgive me, as I'm a bit of a programming virgin. But why would you need more than one register? Well, this is probably getting a bit off-topic, but say you want to add two numbers together. One number goes in the register, and the other... well, on the PIC it has to go in memory somewhere, wh...

Oooh, who said "PIC" just then?? Darn thing only has one register and has to use subterfuge just to get indirect addressing! But seriously, if you're looking into microcontrollers for EV applications, do look at the Atmel AVR chips. They have 32 8-bit registers and a properly designed RISC...

I do indeed have a somewhat crude taper charger for my Mini-El, which consists of several small transformers in parallel. I really would not recommend anybody to emulate such a setup. It works, though, so maybe I shouldn't worry about it. I'll take some photos when I open it up to tidy the wiring an...

Photos from the London to Brighton run

I've finally uploaded the photos from the London to Brighton run, all 104 of them! I actually shot over 200 photos, and these are the best of them. http://www.flickr.com/photos/anachrocomputer/sets/72157600960849686/ Big "thank-you" to Kelvin, who drove me in the Zest and got us in the rig...
