Re: Cheshire/Manchester - 16th of the Month - Pub-meet

Dumb me. Thought the 16th was Sunday. We took the Leaf camping near Llandudno. :)

Re: Who is looking to buy a new electric car this year?

The Tesla is less quiet than the Leaf. In fact I was quite disappointed in it.

Re: Who is looking to buy a new electric car this year?

Amperas are about 38~44 mpg on fuel alone but give up to 38 miles on battery which meets most peoples driving needs per day.

If anyone wants a Vauxhall Ampera. You had better be quick!

They are getting auctioned off. Then that's it from GM.

Re: 200 mile range Leaf anyone?

Lifepo4 is a lower voltage so more required. The operating voltage range is much more narrow. The leaf voltage range per cell has a %age difference. The only fears are top and bottom of charge. Nothing should go too high or too low. If one speaks of differing "internal voltages", thats a m...

Re: 200 mile range Leaf anyone?

Oh! My bad, you are right there Rory. Leafs (etc.) have them doubled up inside the cans.

The discharge voltage rates across differing cell chemistries need to be visualized. Match a pair of discharge graphs of same capacity and you will see why. :)

Re: 200 mile range Leaf anyone?

Just a thought and far outside from actually fitting them. If one uses LiFePo4's in a Leaf there is the issue of differing voltages during discharge. No bullet points? 1) Assume all are the same at full charge. i.e. Charge stops when the first Leaf cells hit 4.1V each. So the LIFEPo4's hit 3.5V each...

Tims not chipped in but he has just bought a Mennekes soket for his van. Seems it's the future if you are in the EU. Leaf or no. ;)
You're right on the money there guys.
