Choosing batteries

Well, these replies seem to confirm what I thought. As Chris B says, ruddy complicated - if you use lead acid anyway. Strikes me there's an opportunity for some software developer to produce a programme to do the calculus required to optimise your choice. I don't do calculus, but I can just about re...

I use lead gel deep cycle batteries, and providing your gearing is right there is no problem keeping pace with other traffic. Because with an electric motor you have maximum torque form zero mph, which internal combustion engines do not have, acceleration from rest is much better with electric. Tha...

Battery Choices

Having spoken to Ian Goodman about his LiFePO4 batteries at Mansfield I'm curious whether other members have either any knowledge or experience with this type. The figures are very impressive. Looking at a very comprehensive page on lead acid batteries on the diy electric car website I see that we h...

Battery Rental

Some time back I did the sums on the real cost of credit card interest and found that even 16% p.a. worked out to be about 7% at normal loan rates when you allow that your debt, and therefore interest, is reducing as you pay it back. Other loans charge interest on the whole ammount for the life of t...

Reinforcements

Sounds sensible. A small detail: round the corners off on the under floor plates. Sharp corners and even edges will help tear through the panel under extreme load. 100mm square is probably too big for 3mm. The thickness needs to increase with area to be useful, otherwise the reinforcement itself sim...

Air supply & battery holding

Base of windscreen is the favourite air intake nowadays because it's a high pressure zone, helping through-flow ventilation when the fan is off. Generally rain water collects in the bottom of the box with a drain going to a simple rubber valve, and the air being taken in a little higher. It's all be...

Air supply & battery holding

How come your interior air now comes from the engine bay ? Fiat wouldn't have done that - what happened to the original system ? I don't recommend drawing this air from under the car, where dust, heavy gases etc tend to collect on the road and get very disturbed by your car. I think you'll find just...

forklift motors

Thanks gg; do you have more details, such as brand, kw rating or max amps, rpm and of course price ! We can look at size and weight after that.
I am definitely interested if I can get around 12- 15 kw.

Motor suppliers

Thanks for passing on your results re Rotomag; disappointing really. I thought India was supposed to be cheaper.
I'll also be interested in how you get on with ADC's UK agent. I am looking for a motor still, but not at £8-900 with duties etc.
