Re: Brighton to London "Future Car Challenge"

There is nothing wrong with having a generator on an EV but you will not comply with the free tax requirements as it will be fuelled with a dirty engine.

Re: Brighton to London "Future Car Challenge"

320v nominal pack voltage with 94 x 50Ah cells.
I limit the inverter current to 140A for a max 30kw power but the motor is capable of over twice that.

Re: Brighton to London "Future Car Challenge"

Has anyone ever seen the boot space I have left? The only place I could put a gene is in the passenger seat. Regarding the power requirements, it is surprising how much energy is used to push my little car along. I note around 20-25A on a flat road at 40-50 mph is fairly normal. This equates t...

Re: Charging Points - comments please

Whooops, I didn't expect that tone of reply from ChrisB :o At the Highcross Shopping Centre car park in Leicester there are over 100 charging bays. All they have is a single 13A RCCD outlet behind each. They must conform to IEE regulations or we would not be allowed to use them. They are also free. ...

Re: Charging Points - comments please

Kevin, I look forward to meeting you soon and throwing some ideas around. :P The idea of installing cheap charge points is great. I guess you or a colleague is a qualified electrician as I am. The conventional charge point seems to cost many thousands per unit. :( As you know, you only need an RCCD ...

Re: Brighton to London "Future Car Challenge"

I have Emailed both Eon and Npower to see if they wish to sponsor me. If I don't get a reply early next week I will stump up the cash myself. I look forward to comparing notes with Kevin regarding his car  and also about the charging points he is installing. My plan is to again attend the E...

Re: Brighton to London "Future Car Challenge"

Very odd. I tried today and the site is totally different with a horrible blue background and small difficult to read text. Couldn't have taken more than ten minutes to build. The first site was much clearer. They still haven't included the "News Update" that I was sent either. I will try ...

Re: Brighton to London "Future Car Challenge"

I bent the ear of one of the organisers regarding access to charging points and he quickly replied with a "news update" which amongst other things, describes the supply of charging points at the start, halfway point and finishing area. He explained that they initially organised the event a...

Re: Brighton to London "Future Car Challenge"

Hi Kevin, I didn't know there was a Tesla owner in our midst. Lucky lad. I have a deposit on the "S" but will probably have built my own extended range car well before they are released. It was the Roadster that ignited my interest in EV's and why I eventually converted an Elise. 32A is a ...
