Great to see you're bristling with ideas Malcolm - you do realise I'll nick any that I can....'' There was a leaning car last year called "poly-ply-lean" - you might find some data on the greenpower site - it was a bit big heavy & slow but delightfully wacky! I think the way forw...

Yes you get bang on 100Ah. I've done the sums...... peak efficiency for the motor is at a touch over 24V so if you use a boost converter the motor efficiency gain gets lost in the converter (that's with 600W going in). You'll appreciate this is an efficiency contest, not a power contest! The winning...

MalcomB
must be 4 wheels (and as you can see some still roll). Obviously safety of the kids is top priority.
Batteries are supplied by the organisers - 70Ah lead acid automotive batteries. You get 2 pairs of 2 for the 4hrs

Superb report - particularly liked the photo of "phoenix" on it's side! There were a few nice photos of my team's car "brian" - the slug lookalike. Like he said ^^^^^ it's a fun hobby, I'm associated with a girls' school team - we were laying up a fibreglass mould for this year's...

Race day was yesterday. My team got a top 10 finish in both races in spite of major howlers by the team.... (I wasn't there - what can I say....). Yep -10th in both races! The BVS entry ended up with the wooden spoon so I guess something must have gone horribly wrong - I'd still like to know who the...

Kitten moves under battery power!!!

OK I'll come clean - my brother was holding a battery electric drill with a socket in the chuck onto the axle pinion nut, while I steered using mole grips on the rack pinion splines. And it didn't quite have enough oomph to keep going under its own power. Still, good fun & a milestone of sorts ....

It is crying out for some kind of standard for the plug type. I can't help feeling that a domestic 13A plug/socket is not the ideal system for this, it's not robust, waterproof or capable of supplying more than 3kW. On the plus side - at least it is some kind of a standard! In view of power transfer...

Those are industrial 3 phase induction motors from Lenze. Also available from literally hundreds of other suppliers... From an EV perspective they have a few problems, they are HEAVY - 20kW would be pushing 100kg. Also they run off 400Vrms line to line - rather more than you'd want to supply in a ba...

BVS greenpower entry??

I notice that the greenpower "corporate challenge" race in a month or so, includes an entry from "the battery vehicle society". Who's doing that then? what's the car like? Is there a website? I won't be at Goodwood that day unfortunately...
