The first flywheel bus was an extension of the Swiss tram service in 1940. There have been a lot of attempts to run trials but I think the missing link to make it work is installing the standardised charging system first and then swapping the bus's ICE power pack for a standardised unit. It can be a...

Thank you. Nick, that sounds scarily complicated, I'm not that good. I think the comparison of keeping old cars on ICE, doing conversions and buying new is a good one. I may do some preliminary research on that to see how much info is available. My original idea was the use of flywheel batteries for...

Help with thesis idea

Hiya, I am studying the Architecture, Environment and Energy MSc at the Centre For Alternative Technology and I need to present a Thesis subject very soon. My last idea was discounted as I defeated the object of a thesis in my presentation Q&A. What I would like to do is to look at a transport r...

The Quasar! I've always wanted one ever since they first appeared. An excellent looking candidate for an EV conversion. The vectrix is really good value for what it is, I doubt wether it could be beaten on cost/performance balance easily, though i would love to be proved wrong :) The Vectrix is exce...

That is what I explained to her, the cost of a second battery pack, its inaccessibility, its weight. Not as simple as swapping a set of AAA Nicad cells in a digital camera. It would be easier to have two Vectrixes (Vectri?), one at work charging while I return home on the other one! But if I could d...

Hi Howard, The Vectrix does sound good but if what has been said is true, and I have no reason to dispute it, then even if the Vectrix can do it it would be just about and no good for the batteries in the long run. There really needs to be an affordable single seat vehicle that can do some motorway ...

Not so good then. :( I guess the only other realistic option would be to go back to finding time to design and build/convert my own with that specfic need in mind. Or get work to either allow me to bring the scooter into the workshop to charge up or to fit a suitable socket in the carpark area. Neit...

Asking a favour from a NW Vectrix owner please

Hi, With much research I am begining to see the Vectrix Scooter as a cost effective and viable option for my work commute. However, it would be on the limits of the range on a Vectrix. I am unlikely to be able to recharge at work as the parking is away from my place of work. I really need to see if ...

My first EV bike scooter thingy

I have just got one of these at a car boot. I don't know anything about it but it works and has a charger.

I will probably play with it for a bit and then see if I can get bits off to use on a more sensible machine.

Any thoughts?

I've been looking at the Matiz recently too. I would put the batteries where the back seats are as I only need a two seater (one seater 99.99% of the time).

Also getting very interested in the VW One Litre prototype. Would be interesting as an EV.
