Somewhere to play!!!

Postby ex925 » Thu Dec 11, 2008 10:03 pm

Anyone know of any events in 2009 within a reasonable radius of Plymouth in Devon? Looked in Plugged In, and apart from the possible Electrathon and the Tour De Presteigne, I don't yet know of anything else............

Maybe, just maybe, all us EVer-hopefuls in the South West should organise a get-together next year? Any takers? Looking forward to the response(s)

Me and my big mouth, from Ed. in Plymouth

Postby ex925 » Fri Dec 12, 2008 1:38 pm

Well, OK. If I've shot my mouth off, better do something.
Hmmmmm.....
I know, how about I do it the "ideal manager" (in other words laziness sold as efficiency) way?
Would the easiest way be to find somewhere safe, and see how many road-legal EVs could turn up?
Alternatively, what about those who have something not road-legal?
Is there anywhere we could meet that would also allow such EVs?
Oh, dear, this sounds very like Sparkford.
I would not want to re-invent the wheel
Sparkford is already a brilliant event

I guess I will start with the basics, then.
Any ideas, anyone, for -
a] Location
b] type of event
c] date
d] duration
RSVP Pleeeeease, anyone

Some good ideas there, how about if you set yourself up as an area coordinator ? I know we've got Jan at Bodmin not sure how far that is from you though ?

Might be worth asking them ?

If they are too far out then set a group up and ask the Membership Sec for a list of members in say your surrounding area.

Just a thought ?

Hi Ed,
Just tried to post a reply but took ages and then it didn't appear
Yes we are interested but don't think our Elcat will get as far as Plymouth!
We tend to stick to short journeys of no more than 20 or so miles.
We got caught out after only 25 miles a few months back - yes I know we should be able to go a bit further than that but we do live in a very hilly area and not sure how good the batteries are by now.

We would be able to come in our "other car" - it wood be good to meet up with other like minded people - they are a bit thin on the ground around us :!:

Possible Devon & Cornwall BVS get-together

Postby ex925 » Sat Dec 13, 2008 10:53 am

Hi, Jan and Colin, thanks for the info.
I am not persuaded that the South West, which seems to me to have very few EVs, needs another co-ordinator.
In EV terms, my area is also quite hilly, but my little TWEV can be carried in the back of our car...
Or even (once, so far) quite lawfully, officer, honestly, on the back of my motor-scooter !

Thinking as I write.
A charging facility is probably essential wherever we decide to meet

The optimal next step might be to start a new topic with the title, "Proposed 2009 South West get-together"
Thus find out:
If anyone else is interested
What they ride or drive
Where they are based
Then try to work out whether to seek a venue based on:
A "convergence" of EV ranges, or
A "convergence" including EVs travelling also in, on, or behind ICVs
What do you think?

Sounds like it would be a good idea to sound out who else is about anywhere near us and then sort out best place to meet.
I have a suspicion that it might just be you and us but hope I am wrong :!:
How about waiting until well into the New Year and then decide on our next moves?

Wait until well into 2009, then decide, from Ed. in Plymouth

A good idea to wait a bit and try again, for various reasons

People will have a clearer view of their calendar of intended events
I will either have had, or know the date for, my hip replacement
The latest financial crisis (Hedge fund scam, billions) will be old news
The long-range weather forecast will take us into the late Spring
I might even have made progress on the MkIII
And... the BVS Committee meeting will have taken place....

What do you think, diary-forward for 090209?

A happy Christmas and a New Year full of (Alternative...) Energy

Update

1 New left hip fitted, recovery going reasonably well, after a setback
2 I have been nominated as BVS Events contact person
3 As a result, I am trying to organise a 2009 "BVS Electrathon"
4 For more info, please see "BVS Electrahon 2009" within "Events" on the BVS Forum

Glad to hear you are up and about again after your hip op.

Best of luck with the organisation of the Electrathon 2009.

All still quiet in this area.
