Enfield Windscreen

Postby EVguru » Mon Aug 06, 2007 7:55 pm

I just had an enquiry from an old friend who's directing the restoration of an Enfield for the Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association.

The deal breaker is going to be a replacement windscreen, so if anybody has a spare, please let me know.

This is also a situation that faces many UK Enfields, so I thought I'd post the topic up so anyone interested in a replacement/spare windscreen could register their interest.

I have vaugue recollections from a good few years ago of a batch of windscreens being available, but if that source doesn't re-appear then they may have to be re-manufactured.

The last time I made enquiries for this sort of work, the tooling was about £1000, with screens in the £150-500 range depending on numbers.

Update on Enfield windscreens - Antoni Offert has been trying to get a group buy together. He needs 10 for the batch, and has 5 names so far. Please comment here or email enfield@batteryvehiclesociety.org.uk if you think you might be interested, or know of an Enfield in need of a new windscreen. Price is around £395 each.

I am aware of several Enfield cars which have damaged windscreens which would not
pass an MOT test, so I have found a specialist manufacturer which can supply small
batches of special windscreens. I will need to give them an existing windscreen, which
they will send abroad so that it can be used to make a new mould for the two layers of
glass. The new glass will then sent back to the UK where the windscreens will be built up
with heater elements and laminated. At the moment I have suggested matching the
original heater pattern, but a slightly wider heated zone may be better. The cost is
expected to be £395-- each, provided that there are enough people interested to be able
to order a batch of ten windscreens. I am prepared to organise the manufacture, and at
the moment I have three people interested. If your Enfield windscreen is chipped or
cracked or going cloudy where it is de-laminating at the edges, then this is a rare
opportunity to buy a new screen. I think that the price is very reasonable especially if you
compare it with the price of a heated screen for any current production car. For more
information please contact Antoni Offert at enfield@batteryvehiclesociety.org.uk

Hi guys,

Although the original post is old, did anything come of this? My Enfield screen does indeed have some fogging around the edges, not too bad but combined with the need to renew the rubber seal and the thought of what may happen when I attempt that prompts my question?

I look forward to your earliest reply.

Hello Paul

Antoni is still ready to go when he gets 8 firm orders, I think.

You can email him directly - He may be able to help with your circuit diagram enquiry too:

If this order is still going ahead The Australian Enfield owners would be interested in ordering a few windscreens.

Hello Greg

Checking back through my emails, I see that Antoni got the windscreens made in August. Send him an email to enfields@batteryvehiclesociety.org.uk if you want to know more.
