Hi guys

Thought I'd show you what I've been up to...

I started making a Toylander a few weeks ago, spent about 6 or 7 hours on it making the body:

Building it off plans, so its not as interesting as building Chitty, but a hell of a lot easier.

That is really neat and very thoughtful and useful fo your wife. :D
Wishing you both well with the new little one. :)

I suppose it could also be set up as a puller if required.

I am going to have to make something like that to move my trailers about. Getting fed up of heaving them about by muscle power.

Thanks Chris, you make me blush

Its crying out for some Lipos...been looking at some 24v 20Ah Pings, but they're over £300.
However, I can stick them in the Toylander afterwards, hmmm :?

Think I'm going to sell my Cinquecento to fund these toys, its just not getting used anymore.

Cant recomend them enough, the set I bought last year for my bike are just ...............amazing 8)

They just go on and on and on and on and on and on and on, even a year on I've still not actually riden the bike to the point where they are flat  best I've done is some 25 odd miles on the bike with a 200watt motor and they didnt seem to even break into a sweat  I get bored of riding the dam thing most times

Ping was very good, e-mailed him, got replies back, paid and was sent a tracking number and was able to track the parcel all the way ..........until it got to the UK  but then it popped up again at my local depot before arriving at my house, all up it took about 12 days door to door

I have heard somewhere that a chap had a BMS go faulty but Ping did send another out although the person had to fit it, but then its really not worth sending the whole thing back just for a faulty BMS.

I think Jeremys got a Ping battery as well and he likes them, they are so small and light compared to the old SLA's

What spec Pings have you got Chris?

I don't know if 10Ah 24v will be enough, or should I go for 20Ah? I guess the motor is approx 200 - 300Watt.

My experience is somewhat documented here

http://www.batteryvehiclesociety.co.uk/ ... 3&start=10

The Ping Specs are here http://www.pingbattery.com/servlet/the- ... Categories click on the pics to see more info on the currents etc

Ping says you can use a 10ah pack for up to 250watts , but its only got a max discharge of 40amps and I felt that was a little to close for comfort and also the 20ah back was the right size for my bike 8)

It was me who had the ping battery with the faulty BMS. He sent me a new one (didn't ask for the faulty one back). My only problem was soldering the wire from the battery onto the new BMS board. The wire is thick and the chunk of solder too big for my little soldering iron to melt. But a local EV user friend had a really chunky soldering iron which did the biz.

By the way, his standard BMS is 40A max, though he does do a 100A version. Though I think that to preserve battery life you should only draw this much current for very brief periods.

If you exceed the rated current for the BMS, it shuts down the current completely, so your vehicle would abruptly die. It does not restart even if you switch off and on again; you have to reset the BMS by applying a voltage to the charging lead. Actually you don't need the charger to do this, you can take a lead from the battery (on the input side of the BMS) and very briefly connect this to the charging lead. I have actually wired in a little push-button switch to do this in case I inadvertently exceed the max current.

About price of Ping batteries. Try emailing him with an enquiry, he may be able to offer you a better price than the buy-it-now price on ebay, though maybe this depends on quantity. I bought a total of 84v 40AH for about £1600 inc BMS, charger and delivery, which was a considerable discount on the ebay price.

Nice one Jonathan.

Good to know he does offer parts etc when things go wrong like that.

I've got a "large" iron specifically for "bigger" jobs , rated at 250W  theres not a lot it cant melt  picked up from a boot sale for £2 8)

Didnt know about the 40amp restriction on the BMS OR the reset proceedure for exceeding it, handy to know thanks, todate I havent exceeded it on the 20ah set for the bike but I'm in need of a larger set for my EVT4000E scooter which appears to be able to draw a good 100Amps if prevoked, just need to hook up my ammeter and get some running readings to see what it does run at, then I'll e-mail him and see what he can offer me.
