It's like a disease I tell you! :)

Seriously though, if you don't have a Prius you may not know just how much space there is under the false floor.

While at the dealers on Thursday we also had a chat with the sales guy who helped relieve us of the money for Velma. He's a bit of a green convert and mentioned that all the larger Toyotas (Bigger than Yaris) have a false HV battery in the boot and that same false floor. The false battery box is exactly the same as the battery box in the Prius and could mean that it may be possible to put the prius tech in any one of the models...

What's an HV battery ?

There's often an awful lot of wasted space in cars I remember we had an Allegro in the late 70's which had oodles of places where we could stash things which came in very handy when my Dad changed jobs and we had to move from Liverpool to Plymouth with as much as we couldn't squeeze into the overloaded removals lorry in Mum's Allegro as Dad had given his company car back

HV= High Voltage. In other words, the Traction battery which moves the car along.

There's a little 12V battery too, but that really just helps the car power up. :)

This is quite a good web resource for people wanting to know more...

duh! silly me now do I feel a fool

Interesting though if they are making provision for a whole battery pack like that tough I suspect it's kind of the other way round and more likely the pack is designed to fit it

That space under the inner floor liner is really usefull, if I need a lot of luggage space I often remove the tray and load stuff directly on and around the spare tyre. Must remember to re pack the jack ect.

Indeedy we had a Montego Estate which had a cubby hole under the floor in fornt of the tyre which I used to keep stuff out of sight and that was certainly not designed for a battery pack. They did use it to house the 3rd row of seats in some of the models that had 7 seats. See these People carriers are far from new  Great for batteries though as Nikki points out!
