Should I change the battery on my bike?

Postby badnewswade » Tue Apr 22, 2008 9:19 pm

Hi there - does anyone know what the 36v lead-acid batteries in an electric bike should charge up to?

I'm pretty sure mine have lost some capacity; they go up to 40.3 or so and then drop down to 39.8 or so shortly after charging.
I'm sure they used to go up to 42.0! and they've lost a bit of their pep. Sadly I lost the mileage spreadsheet on my computer, so thought I'd ask around.

Any ideas? Nikki?

Cheers
Andy

PS I will get around to joining the BVS soooooooooon, honest!

I'd say you should be looking at 41.4 volts to 42.6 volts or there abouts.

Sounds to me like you've got one battery with a cell thats gone down  best bet is to hook them out and measure each battery and find the faulty one.

Good plan - am a bit frightened to open the case really, don't want to break my luvly bike (which hasn't given me any trouble for ages, apart from a slight electrical problem which I soon fixed).

Sadly it sounds like your going to have to , I suspect you'll find 3 sealed Yuasa 12vots of some sorts, and it will be one of those which will have gone poof, or do you have nicads ??

If its 12volts yuasa types then I might be able to help

Do you know the Ah capacity of the pack ?

Supposedly they're 14 amp-hour sealed lead-acids. Do you have any of those? The Bristol Battery Shops selling some kind of 12v batteries for about £36 apiece but I think they might have got the ampage wrong.

Andy,

I now have my Sakura back but my batteries are in a bit of a state too.

Can you make it to the pub meet on Friday May 2nd?

Nikki.

Hi Chris

Prices for the HZS12-14 batteries are very good indeed. However they can be beaten :) How does £14.12 sound :?:

Please PM me for further prices

Dave
