I don't want to trash my batteries yet so I won't run 'em dry, but I've just done eight miles on my horrid little "moped" and its charged up in about three hours! (and this is a second hand machine as well)

Oh and this was at night and the first part of the journey took place in driving rain as well!

Nahh, I love it really - it's just that the saddle ended up soaking my trousers and the secondary battery gave out so I had to push it the last block for safety reasons. :?

 wow today has been the first time the weather has taken a hit on my Nicads on the Blingo with my worst ever range today :(

Managed 38miles and the recharge light came on and I was at 6%

Limped home and was at 4% and 39 miles, no sign of it going into limit mode as I was still able to make 40mph but doubt it would have managed that for long

Wow thats pretty pants eh!!! but todays temp hasnt really got above 5C here and I didnt take the van out until later PM and I suspect the batts had cooled down from being charged, also its dosnt help I have my roof rack on and I'm carrying about 1/4 ton of stuff in the back of the van as well  all of which wont be helping, that and a lot of todays milage has been at 50+ on the motorway, but still pretty poor :(

Lets hope the weather warms up soon :?

Phew - and there was me thinking it was mine on the blink. I did 2 journeys yesterday of 30 miles with charge inbetween and I was using about 600watt hours per 5 miles (its normally 450).

The second journey yesterday was better after the recharge but all that icy water being pumped past them continuously doesnt help. I wonder if a "winter switch" should be installed in series with the coolant pump to allow some warmth through the batteries.

She just seemd to handle differently in the -2C temps - felt horrible.

Today has been better (warming to +1).

John

Hmm, maybe a chemical heater of some kind?

I did over 17 miles on my Sakura once back in the autumn, but I wouldn't do that every day. The SLAs handle cold weather fine - although there was some voltage drop after 12 miles one day, another time I had left it in the street outside a friends house until about 2am and it had turned into one big icicle - but it worked fine. That said I'm not really into taking it out much in this weather because it can't be good for the batts long term and, more importantly I would just about freeze to death, so it's the pushbike for me until things warm up.

Roll on those new fangled silicon-nano Lithium things I say!

My range would be just fine in this weather if I drove at 5mph!

What I'm having to do is to warm up the batteries and try to keep them at about 15 degrees or so. Any less and the internal resistance goes through the roof!

At the moment the pack is at 1 deg.C (That's the warmest part of it!) so when the suspension is fixed I'll have to warm the cells up before using it!
