SORN and road tax

Do you own or use a EV. Then this is a good place to discuss things.

SORN and road tax

Postby Grumpy-b » Thu Apr 17, 2014 4:06 pm

Until a few days ago, I was unaware that as soon as you declare SORN, the car tax is voided and no longer valid. We put a family car on SORN in Jan with £30 tax paid until September, so little point in cashing it in as the car was to be sold in a few weeks (Original owner died so no insurance) Car passed to my daughter who has now been threatened with a fine because the vehicle is untaxed. Even though a fully paid up car tax still exists and is in the car. After lots of DVLA unhelpfullness, the tax disk has finally been reinstated. The fact that a paid up Tax disk was displayed in the correct car was not enough. Displaying a tax disk is aparently a Police requirement and nothing to do with DVLA who do everything electronically etc.
I do so love the way our public services are so joined up.
So beware.
