Okay, I have taken the up the offer of a free J1772 Chargemaster point and had it installed at home. Problem is that I am not able to plug it directly in to my car as I have a "dumb" charger that just wants 13amp 240 volt from a standard UK household plug. My car has got a 16 amp commando ? socket on it.
Question - would I be able to put a J1772 socket on the car and be able to fool it in to getting the charging point to power on?
Question - Grumpy- is this something you have looked at or thought about? It would be nice to have another socet on the car so that I could plug in to either J1772 or 13amp UK mains.
I have seen a few sites showing people that have made "adaptor boxes" which is nice, but I do like the idea of having a J1772 socket on my car somewhere.

Yes... you will need a resistor and a diode between the pilot signal and ground to 'turn on' the Charging Station... see 'State C' on the EVSE simulator here;mattcarr wrote:Question - would I be able to put a J1772 socket on the car and be able to fool it in to getting the charging point to power on?

If you want a more sophisticated solution that removes power when pressing the switch on the J1772 handle then try this kit;

The AVC2 module will not work with the chargemaster station. I have both.

Re: J1772 Charging points
Currently got a customers charge socket out and am looking at the parts to do a full conversion. The existing socket passes through two panels and this needs to be sealed to stop water getting into the structure. This makes it tight for the J1772 with a lid to be fitted in. Also different sources of socket have a lid on different sides. Thankfully one does hinge on the left so may well work. It will be a couple of weeks before this is sorted. If it wont all go in then the only option would be to have the J1772 in the front under the bonnet on the Drivers side. I do know that the resistor and diode works with the Chargemaster units as they use that to test them .
Other option is a box with the J1772 and bits. Was covered elsewhere in the Forum.

Have you reported the issue? Seems odd given how widely used the AVC2 module is in the US and Europe.skooler wrote:The AVC2 module will not work with the chargemaster station. I have both.

Hi Kevin,
Yes the issue has been reported. I also have the same issue with podpoint solo units with the firmware update from around September last year, tried rolling a 'broken' one back to the older firmware and it miraculously worked again.
Happy to report that it works perfectly with your units
I'm upgrading the RX8 to Lithium and the 10KW open source charger with J1772 support from EMW so I'm hoping the issue will go away!
Cheers,
Mike
