Earth Leakage Detector

Postby rrumpe » Thu Oct 17, 2013 9:33 am

Hi guys,
I would like to ask if the Evie has earth leakage detector? Is actually this detector so important?

Thanks.

It has no earth leakage detector, since it has no AC Mains current other than to the charger. If there is a leak on the mains sid it would be picked up by the supply earth trip. The Ac side is very closely controlled by the Curtis controller and it will go to shutdown if there is any current imbalance.
There is no other onboard leakage detection system. It would be quite difficult to have a system to detect leakage from, three phase ac and dc.

Particularly as its a closed system, the only reason we have earth leakage detection is because terrafirma i.e the ground is one half of our electrical system as both Neutral and Earth connections on our mains system are one of the same.
Thus if you touch a live item you will get a shock as it will flow through you back to source, this cant happen on a self contained system as there is no return path.
