Power steering

Postby Grumpy-b » Sat Jul 05, 2014 7:28 am

The C1 has an electric power assistance where an electric motor turns on to the steering shaft to assist your movements. Sensors detect the load and give a limited assistance via powering the motor in whatever direction you turn the wheel. The currents involved with the motor are quite high. I havnt bothered to find these fuses.
I have had a car which has been uncharged for a while and the 12v battery was getting low, I inadvertantly turned the ign switch to the start position , and lost all power steering. I assumed the worst and checked out the fuse for the control side, which is number 8 on the left side of the speedo (You take the cowl off to get at them) It was OK. For some reason I checked the 12v Battery Voltage and it was below 10v. Recharged and all is well, so it would appear that there is some sort of cut off in the steering motor controller, probably to limit current draw and damage to the motor and controller.
