Thank you both.
I have done 850 miles since new brushes were fitted, I checked them at 388 miles and they looked fine, bedded nicely and not much wear.
I had a look at the brushes yesterday and found that two of them had worn to within 5-10 mm of the 'finish line' and the other two look like they are jammed tight ,wire connectors have come out of the carbon block and look really fried and had welded themselves to the brush holders which also look quite yellow and heat damaged??
I have a photo of the brush ring and shall read up on the process for putting pics on the forum but may not achieve this tonight.

Thats not good and may mean that too much motor current is being drawn, or perhaps some debris under the brush causing hi resistance, or comm fault.

Do you drive it with a very light foot ?. Keeping out of the red?

Will be interested in the pictures.

Hi Badger,
Sorry to here about your Blingo not going, maybe I could give
you a hand if you need to take the motor out to get the contacts
reground, or repaired.

I live in Bath and have been meaning to get in touch for awhile for
advice on buying a Berlingo, but I have just bought the Electric Rover that
was for sale on Ebay check for sale section, just getting it tomorrow, :) I
was trying to get a Blingo but they were just outside my price range or
needed some work or both.

Also I'm a carpenter, only part-time now since having cancer but I used
to do site work, not to fancy, I've seen your site and it looks great.

I used to do a lot of car repairs when I was younger and liked to save
cars from going to the scrap yard, especially the old type MGB's with
chrome bumpers, anyway sorry for the rambling I'll send you a PM with
my phone No. and give me a call if you need a hand or we could just
meet at the pub, we go to the Bell sometimes. Would be nice to know a
local fellow EV owner, anyway, I'm sure it can be sorted out.

Regards, Nigel

Oh no Badge this doesnt sound good

As John says this really doesnt sound good  I'm wondering if you may have done more damage to the com than we first thought :?

If you have any probs with photo posting feel free to e-mail them to me and I'll host and display them for you but to be honest its not that hard to do.

Sounds like the brushes may have got stuck in the holders did you make sure they where well cleaned out when you last changed them :?

When you are normally driving about where does the eco meter normally sit ?

Well my clever wife has created this link to see the pics, the pics of the brushes are not very good but then i think the previous description is enough maybe ;
http://www.flickr.com/photos/24533244@N ... 454630810/

do i drive with a light foot? well not light enough probably but then again living around the bath area tends to be quite a few hill climbs, so yes in the red quite a lot really .

Did i clean the brush holders - yes i did but there was a very small piece of metal that had 'welded' itself to the inside of the brush holder very close to the comm despite many attempts to remove with a flat diamond it would not shift the main problem being that it was so close to the comm that i could not get a decent stroke with the file. I have seen the suggested plate to make and protect the comm with but if i had used this then there would have been no stroke distance for the file.
so what did i do? I marked where this would obstruct the brush by gently pushing it past a couple of times then carefully and acurately created a very shallow groove along the brush by scraping with a 2mm chisel until there would be free movement of the brush in its holder, thinking the next set of brushes that go in i should sort it properly -which brings me to-

The brush holders look like they dont come off without taking the motor apart ,unless anyone knows otherwise?

Thanks for that Nigel good to meet up - look forward to it :D

Wow - that looks bad. Is that one brush still stuck in the carrier ?.

Looks like its a motor out job to me.

There is a series of pictures and info on motor removal - but for the Peugeot 106 and the words are in French.

I am pretty sure you will have to register with them. I have, and if you dont speak french its pretty easy to follow the sign up process as its the same layout as our own forum.

Hi Badger,
I reckon that comm needs resurfacing, looks quite bad, probably
the hill's around here that you have been zooming up so quickly!

I got stuck yesterday with my bad batteries and had to get some elec. from
a house 100 yards from home to get up Edward St.!

Remember If you need a hand or advice give me a shout, and I hope all
goes as well as possible for your family.

Take care,
Nigel
