Yes, this is rather exciting. I wonder if we can get involved in some way.

I was telephoned by one of our members on the Isle of Man to tell me about this. We actually have about 6 members over there I believe. I wonder if they would like to enter a vehicle. Our nearest local contact to them is possibly Frank Wykes. I will mention this to him.

In the meantime, is anyone on this forum interested in being involved in this?

I attended the press launch at the Science Museum on Tuesday evening.

Although rather short on substance, it's clear there's some money and influential people behind this project. Although it wasn't initially clear, the event is for battery electrics and hydrogen fuel cells, no bio-fuels in conventional bikes allowed.

I'd alerted Cedric Lynch and he and Arvind from AGNI motors were there. Hopefully between us we can come up with a competetive entry.

There's now a forum on the official website www.ttxgp.com

Hopefully some rules will be forthcoming shortly.

Woooh EXCELLENT ! Maybe you can write something for Plugged In ? I have been aware of this from Frank. It would be really good if we could get something to enter it's a tough course though so you'll need all the luck we can muster up

I'd be interested in the rules too, especially if they are prepared to be pragmatic when it comes to "cottage" teams in the Open class. Full ACU/FIM compliance for both rider and bike will no doubt put off quite a few one-off amateur teams.

I'd love to have a go at this, but just getting an ACU race licence would be way beyond my means, let alone building a fully FIM compliant race bike.

Still, it looks to be a great challenge, 38 miles around the mountain course is a great deal to ask from an electric bike at racing speeds.

I wonder if the event will be like the main TT, where spectators can ride the course before/after the race? If so, then there may be an opportunity for those who would like to take part but can't muster the cash to meet all the regulatory requirements to take road-legal electric bikes for a lap around the island.

I wonder if The Killacycle will make a show, at 0 to 60mph in 1 second and
a top speed of 168mph this is the fastest EV so far! :shock: And it uses
1200 of the good old NI-Cad's from battery drills! It was in the paper the
other day.

The Killacycle uses 1210 A123 LiFePO4 cells, not nickel chemistry cells. IIRC it runs at around 374V, with about 2000A max current from the Zilla controller.

I doubt it would go all the way around the island, as it only does about six 1/4 mile runs on one charge...........

Mighty impressive though, particularly as they can recharge the pack in just 4 minutes!

Bill is an old friend of mine from the days of EV circuit racing at the Firebird track, South of Phoenix.

He was one of the founder members of NEDRA (National Electric Drag Racing Association).

Nigel, do you have any concept of the difference between a drag racing motorcycle and a circuit racing machine? It would be like trying to drive an F1 car off road.

No where near the fastest! That would be the Buckeye Bullet with an FIM reccord of 271.737 mph and an American record of 321.834 mph.

Killacycle is probably the quickest though.
