Bristol-London Eco-rally Sunday 31 July, message from organi

Postby ex925 » Fri Jul 29, 2011 12:41 pm

The panic might not be their fault - (last-minute withdrawal by major sponsor)
Exhibiting: maybe it is a reward for volunteering?
But, if so, is anyone responsible for:
Safety of the machine voluntarily exhibited - from interference, and - for provision of Public Liability cover?

Here is a message from the organisers

Volunteer for the Bridgestone Eco-Rally - Sunday 31 July - exhibit outside Buckingham Palace... meet Sam Fox... see the Radical SRzero... etc etc.‏ 09:53 Mike Whelan @ Revolve
To events@batteryvehiclesociety.org.uk, editor@batteryvehiclesociety.org.uk, logistics@eco-rally.org
Further to previous correspondence...

We are appealing for volunteers to help with simple traffic marshalling tasks at the Bridgestone Eco-Rally this Sunday, 31 July 2011. In return for your time, you'll get the chance to speak to all the major players in battery vehicle technology (Tesla, Ford, Volvo, Nissan, Lightning etc) and mingle with our diverse line-up of guest drivers - from Robert Llewellyn to Samantha Fox. We are also giving away copies of Mark Stevenson's book: An Optimist's Tour of the Future to the first ten registrants. The book is highly acclaimed and as a result Mark has been invited by the likes of Honda and Audi to consult on future strategy. Volunteers are needed for Oxford, Ace Cafe, BRE Watford and The Mall London.

Due to a last-minute withdrawal from a major exhibitor, we are also offering limited free exhibition space to privateers who would like to exhibit their personal projects on The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace at the Bridgestone Eco-Rally finish line - in return for a full day's volunteering duties. The event is this Sunday, 31st July and is similar in nature to the 2010 Start Eco Car Spectacular.

Please register as a volunteer at: http://www.eco-rally.org/volunteer_stew ... ation_form
Please apply to exhibit your vehicle at: http://www.eco-rally.org/2011-registration-form

Duties
volunteers will typically be helping as stewards leading eco vehicles to
their locations, providing goodies bags, answering questions of the
public, keeping an eye out for lost children and luggage.

Location (s)
the eco rally starts early morning this Sunday. stewards would ideally
arrive around 6 to 7am in broad street, oxford to help setup.

around 11am they will be taken to BRE in watford on a coach or possible
as passengers in some of the eco cars driven by various celebrities.
At BRE volunteers would again help guiding vehicles, checking everyone
knows their position, etc.

around 2pm we leave BRE for London by coach where we then again have
similar tasks until around 5pm.

volunteers could just be in London (all day at The Mall), join in
Watford or also simply help in the morning in oxford.

The first post on this thread gives the wrong starting point.
According to the later post, and to the Bridgestone eco-rally website, it does not start from Bristol but from Oxford.
Pity - I am in Bristol and would have liked to see the line-up

I guess that Bristol - London is too far for most pure EVs (except perhaps for Tesla)
